Journey Escape

I am not sure exactly when I became aware of this game's existence. I remember showing Chasing Ghosts to a friend and he pointed out the game in this scene:     That got me interested to check it out. It's interesting that Todd chose to have the game play in the background because I think it is the most amazing and most unsung achievement in console gaming and possibly gaming in general.   It stands as the longest video game marathon ever as far as I know, lasting over 72 hours. The sh

The Arcade Experience on Turbo-Grafx 16?

This weekend did some serious gaming. A friend came over and laid to tape the current world record for Bonk's Revenge in both the points and fastest completion variations.   The records were uncontested - he provided the initial recorded performance. I was blown back to see that of the 6 "Bonk's" related records on the TG-16, only one (Bonk's Adventure, points) has tallied scores. That game is in his sights now...he achieved 13 extra lives at one point in this weekend's performance. I have

Dreamcast Region Issues

So being the obsessive collector that I am, many eons ago I took it upon myself to collect all light guns I considered relevant to my own dusty video game museum and historically, in general.     The Dreamcast has a contentious background when it comes to light guns. Some have theorized it was due to the Columbine massacre occurring sometime around the Dreamcast release, but they only released their light gun overseas. As a result, the gun (if you can source one from outside North America

Sega Master System Light Phaser Games

I have been on a quest for a while to collect all the light gun games for the system and submit to Twin Galaxies on all of them.   Here is the short version of my progress: 1. Marksman Shooting - 397,000 points, already verified. UPDATE: increased score to 431500, awaiting verification. 2. Trap Shooting - 78,900 points, already verified. UPDATE: increased score to 83500, awaiting verification. 3. Safari Hunt - 1,130,600 points, already verified. 4. Shooting Gallery - 16,200 points, alread

Current backloggery........

Got my Starpath Supercharger in today! And it works GREAT!   I was able to locate a copy of "Stella's Got a New Brain" on underground-gamer.com where I have been a member just about as long as I have been a member here. Hooked up an ancient Rio CD player I have (it was state of the art years ago, before mp3 players because it - GASP - played data CDs!). Shooting for 12K on Communist Mutants from Space, not working on any of the other games currently and still barely exploring them.   Tower

Activision Game Vault

Yet more evidence of my Activision obsession.     I picked up Volume 3 at -- of all places -- Menard's at least 15 years ago. It was in a bin of junk software and I may have paid 99 cents for it...perhaps it was $3-4, I don't remember. But it was cheap. And ironically, it is the best and for me the only useful volume. It contains just about all of the 'original 33' and then some, as well as a number of C64 games. It is actually a reissue of some Windows 95 compilations, when I pic

Patch Scores - Revised

I don't think that many disagree that the 2600 patch scores set my Activision are often times too low. Specifically I'd like to discuss what I consider to be three of the most important games in their all-star roster. They also happen to be three games I consider most important...both to myself personally and to historical gaming.   River Raid at 15,000 is not very serious. Even a cursory gamer can achieve this in a short while.   Frostbite at 40,000 is almost equally as bad. At 75,000 I

Devil's Crush Bug

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCZyqK3QzUc   I recorded this years ago. My ball got stuck somewhere up inside the corner there and while I could have 'tilted' to get it out, I didn't. As a result, I was notching 100,000 points every 2 seconds or so. I let it go over night to see what would happen, I didn't know at the time but the game ends at 999 million.   It's ironic because while I have cracked 10 million on Alien Crush, I have always had trouble with Devil's Crush and can barely make

Twin Galaxies submission gone wrong......

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=su-GpguDAaA   This video was a submission for Activision Anthology for PS2 by a friend.   It is a good example of the protocol I use when submitting a camera (as opposed to VHS) based game. It is also a blatant example of how bad my Activision obsession has become and the junk I buy.   As it turns out, this was a failed attempt, his score was not stellar. He played again and turned out a new score, still awaiting verification.

The Dichotomy of the Double Ender

Xonox is of course known for their double enders. I have been a long time owner of a couple of the more common examples, one in particular I'd like to discuss today:     As honestly strange as it is to combine two games into a single cart, certainly more strange is the wild contrast of these two games. Their dynamic relationship is measured by the fact that while one game (Ghost Manor) is quite playable; fun even, yet challenging, the other is an absolute piece of garbage and in my estima

Lofty Activision goals

activision.xls   Just spent an hour at least going through my own notes and hundreds of queries on twingalaxies.com building this spreadsheet of my personal goals and previous scores.   I just purchased 'Activision Classics' for the PS1 which can play on my PS2. I am going to purchase 'Activision Anthology' for PSP when the auction ends in 2 days and bring it with me on vacation to Florida this year; my brother has a PSP that he never uses which I plan to borrow. I already have the PS2 and

US Games Obsessions

Commando Raid and Towering Inferno have been monopolizing my game play and the latter has even been forcing me to 'waste' time away from my console.   First of all -- Commando Raid. I have already submitted a new WR on the emulator side at 71995. I picked up the cart sans box/manual on the cheap this week during a slightly f&*cked up store visit described in an earlier post. My next goal is the new #2 on the console side, I need approximately 77000 there. Yet another record I surpass

Wii to fill the void

Had a hectic day in which I had to run straight to the dentist from work, then stop at home to pick up some foodstuffs and rush to my parents home on the other side of town (all via bike, of course) for an evening BBQ.   Did some Wii gaming with my mom over there. Kept it simple with some Tennis and Bowling on Wii Sports and then some more Bowling on Wii Resort. We both agreed that the increased sensitivity with the added controller attachment for Wii Resort makes a big difference and is m

A trip to the local game shop.....

Took a bike ride over to Videogames Etc. in Norridge today. I stopped in for the first time in years a week ago and picked up some nice stuff: sealed Journey Escape and a couple random loose SNES and 2600 carts.   I went back today because I have a dead Turbo Grafx. Its a second system I've owned for a long time, my #1 system is in top working shape and currently connected. I got this one as part of a bundle on ebay with some games or controllers or something a while back (the seller listed

Fast Food

Rediscovered Fast Food (2600) a number of weeks ago and quickly took the world record on Twin Galaxies for emulator play. At that time I did not have a working console: my 2600 Jr. was out of commission. I had applied the composite output mod years ago and a faulty wire had rendered it useless. Since I was happy with my emulators (PC and XBOX) and due to some amount of laziness I was not interested in seeking said bad connection/wire.   Well between now and then (the past couple weeks) that

Greetings

Hello all.   My name is satan165. I am 33 years old, live alone and collect vintage gaming equipment. I have been doing so for 5-6 years and of late I have begun to increase my time actually using said equipment rather then obsessing over it (which I still do as well).   In my profile you can see my website which contains a great deal of pics and info regarding my collection. It is in need of an update - something it has not needed in a great while. However lately (as I mentioned above)
