Games of Atari - Big Atari 2600 review article complete!
The latest batch of reviews for the Games of Atari website has been six months in the making, and now it is finally complete! I decided to combine reviews of the Atari 2600 versions of Pac-Man, Defender, Missile Command, and Asteroids, plus sequels, into a single article that also touches on various chapters of the console's history. The result is a little bigger than I anticipated, and took a little longer than I had planned, but now it's done and available for reading here, or here, or here, or even here, among several other places. In all the article reviews 17 different versions of 8 different games, and those numbers are likely to go higher once I give Asteroids Deluxe and Hangly Man their own entries. Obviously several hacks and homebrews are also covered. If anybody notices any messed up facts or incorrect names, please let me know.
For taking six months you'd think I'd have written a novel, but actually most of that time was spent distracted by another exercise. If you're curious, you can look at phase one of the FujiSkunk Music Database Project, my attempt at building a music database and a web interface to go with it, with the happy side effect of getting my music collection better organized.
With this collection of reviews out of the way, I will finally continue with more Atari 2600 screen captures and audio bits.
PS - I know this review is bigger than my background image. Revamping the site's content management is on my to-do list.
