Retiring...

That is to say that I had a job in the first place. But after realizing that I have made an obscene amount of games, most of them "junk," I have come to the realization that I don't want to be a nuisance. So after GoSub 2 and Nice Ice are released for the Odyssey 2, I am calling it quits on homebrew video game programming (except for the occasional Insecticide update. I want to finish that game and not leave it after pouring so much time into it.) I know I said I wanted to be the Ed Averett of the Odyssey 2 programming scene, but honestly, why make games if nobody likes to play and/or care about them? And also, I need to spend more time PLAYING the games I do have. Most of the time I am sitting at the computer typing code that nobody seems to care about. I keep getting games and then not play them. Well I think it's time to actually play the games I do have so I can stop being a hoarder. And the games I don't like I will sell here. Of course, my standards are obscenely high, so if I don't like a game, chances are you'll love it. My mom is retiring on July 1, so I will have a lot more time to bug her to drive me to the post office to sell games on the AtariAge marketplace. I don't know if she'll like doing that. All she'll have to do come September is take and pick up my nephew from school. Oh well, enough about that. I have about 50 billion video games sitting in my room and out in the pantry and garage. All they're doing is sitting there not being played! Of course I'll keep my treasures I found, like the Game.com, N-Gage, and Virtual Boy stuff. I don't know, I've just been in a bad mood lately. I don't know why.

Nuisance to whom? If you enjoy it, it's not hurting you otherwise and you're not making demands on anyone else then there's no reason to not do it.

However, I do understand the difficulty in continuing if you are having to be your own cheerleader.

Sometimes it's our own personal issues clouding the way we interpret other peoples reactions to our work. I fight with this problem constantly.

I don't mean this in a patronizing way but I'm proud of your accomplishments especially regarding the O2 and VB.

I think the same way too. That's why I didn't do much about homebrewing myself (heck, I already work as a programmer as my main job!). But every now and then the bug bites me again... that's why yesterday I did a hack of Atari 2600 Pole Position and put it up in the "Hacks" forum.

I wouldn't say you're a nuisance... some people are better at programming and some are worse, just like some are better and some are worse musicians. But those who do it in their free time aren't expected to be a master in the craft. That's why you find many amateur bands around playing music which they wouldn't be able to sell, but they still enjoy doing it. So... in the end it all depends on if you enjoy doing it if you're not in for the money. As Wham said... Do you enjoy what you do? If not, just stop, don't sit there and rot!

I still play Fatso here and there, so don't give me that nobody like to plays or cares about your games. :)

I'd say do it when you feel like it, but don't just drop it. Seems to me you like it to a point, and that is the main thing.
