Castle of Doom
So I've begun work on a new version of Castle of Doom. I had some troubles with the previous version, so I thought I'd try to fix them. After a few unsuccessful starts, I'd thought I'd use the pac-man demo that Random Terrain made as a basis. So I took some of the code and tweaked it. I kept tweaking until I got a working test room. Then I went in and added the 10 rooms I had designed previously, tweaking those as well. I learned that I cannot have a piece of ground that is one pfpixel long. So I made them two pfpixels long. So now what I need to do is design more rooms. What I'm doing is making an 8k game. The first bank is the game controls and the second one will be almost completely full of room data. I wish that all the playfield data wasn't moved to the last bank. Then I could put some more rooms in the first bank since I have more room in it. So right now I have 10 rooms and about 1,800 bytes left in the second bank. And with each room taking about 100 bytes of data, I can only put in about 18 more rooms in it. Argh! Well, GoSub only had 20 or so screens, so I'm figuring Castle of Doom would be good with thirty, although I'd like to add more than that. Here's the latest version.
