Troll routes

So I started work on the PlayStation game I'm making again. Jack and the Beanstalk. You know, the silent one :(. Anyway, I tried to make the troll chase after Jack, but it looked bad, so I tried to make the troll bump into the trees and not go through them like Jack does. I must have spent four hours trying before I decided it was useless and gave up. Instead, I have the troll go a patterned route, which is much more predictable. I think I'll have the castle guards chase after Jack once you climb up the beanstalk, which, by the rate I'm going, I'll get to in about 2020. :( And it will probably still be silent. I really should work on this more. I will once I get the cable that will allow me to test it on a real PS1. I tend to buy stuff used and then get all thrilled about having it. That's the way I did the Atari 2600. I wasn't born to have it when it came out, so I bought one in 2006. Now I have over 300 games for it. When the PS1 originally came out, I was using the SNES and N64, so I never had a chance to play it until I got one a few years ago. So I put in the troll pattern and if Jack touches the troll, it starts over again. I will add lives, though. There will be beans at the end of each screen for Jack to get, so it's kind of like GoSub. I need to put the bean sprite into the game. So anyway, I was up until 9pm last night which is late for me. I just got back from the flea market. It sucks now, so I won't be going to the other ones any time soon.

Have you ever considered working in Unity (or Unreal)? While there's going to be a significant learning curve - there's lots of tutorial material out there.

What are those? Programming languages? Right now I'm using C on a Virtual Console and it is working well except for the no sound part.
