Hot dog!
Day 4 working on Yum! I added a hot dog. Right now, the game randomly chooses whether to display the hot dog or the ice cream cone. It also, in case you didn't know, picks a random y position. Well, I fine-tuned it so the food doesn't appear off the screen. I need to add some more food sprites, but I suck at sprite designing, so perhaps you guys can help me. The maximum width is 16 pixels (well you could probably do over that, but then the food would look huge to the mouth.) Same goes for the height. This differs from Atari 2600 sprite design in that you can have more than one color per horizontal line. I guess that's what 7 years between console making can do! I bought Shanghai via ePay, the price wasn't horrible, but I did get the manual with it. It hasn't come yet, I just did it! I must confess though, that my Control Pad isn't in the best of shape. I kept stopping when controlling poor Wonder Boy. I had quite the time trying to figure out how to jump high. I figured he could since there was fruit and stuff he couldn't get to. I realized you have to press both buttons to make him jump higher. But then he throws an ax while jumping, which I guess doesn't harm anything, but it is awkward to see an ax being thrown while jumping. And then I discovered that there's a pinball table in Casino Games. Since when is pinball a casino game? So I guess I'm having a fun time both playing and coding for the Master System.
