Back to Gyvolver (Atari 2600 WIP)

Random Terrain


I've been cleaning up the code for Seaweed Assault so I can put it on the batari Basic page and ideas about Gyvolver (the unfinished scrolling game from 2008) have been popping into my head. It could take the rest of January before the Seaweed Assault code is ready for people to see, so I thought I'd post this to help get Gyvolver off my brain for the rest of the month. (Has it really been almost 8 years since I started working on Gyvolver?)

Not that long ago I thought I might turn Gyvolver into a DPC+ game, but it seems like a growing number of people are wetting their pants over 4k games, so I might try to see if I can keep it within 4k.

At least one person posted in the old Gyvolver thread that they wanted borders of some kind, so I just added borders using a sprite and a missile in a test program to see if it would work. It worked and doesn't look too horrible. Maybe the border color could give the player some kind of information. Since the single-color sprite will be used for the border, if there is a bad guy, I'll have to make it using the Gyvolver sprite. That means the bad guy will be multicolored now (good news), but whenever he comes on the screen, Gyvolver and the bad guy will flicker (bad news).

I think 8 years is long enough. Let's see if I can get Gyvolver finished within the first half of 2016.
