Thoughts on Rogue One

Rhindle the Dragon

Wow, I seem to have tried too hard on Wednesday's entry. Oops!

I know it's a little late, but I had the luxury of seeing Rogue One again on Thursday, and I'm glad I did.

When I saw it on opening night, the CGI Tarkin was super jarring. I wasn't expecting him to have such a big role, and I guess my mind was subconsciously nitpicking his face for flaws.

The second time I saw the movie, though, I made it a point to look at Tarkin as just another person, comparing him to the other actors. As a result I was surprised at how impressive the motion-capture was. Now I can see why there are some people who didn't know Peter Cushing has been dead for 20 years and thought he was real.

As for the rest of the movie, I think Cinemassacre's review sums it up quite well. I hate to cite a source, but I was going to say the same thing anyway.

I didn't like it as much as The Force Awakens because I thought it wasn't well-rounded. Episode VII was good all the way through, whereas Rogue One's first two thirds were incredibly boring (even more so the second time through, by the way), and the finale was epic. Yes, I loved Darth Vader, and was squirming in my seat as he slaughtered those rebels in the dark hallway. What can I say?

I'd say it's worth the price of admission just for the raw emotion and pure awesomeness of the ending, much like most reviewers.

So happy new year from your favorite castle boss.

I liked the band of adventurers on this quest. Had a look and feel of the New Hope era, and really helps cement who despite the Rebels were to let a farm boy fly a X-Wing. As someone said, and I agree, my fourth favorite Star Wars movie.

Yeah, I liked the characters too, I just thought they deserved more development. The entire first half could have used some more heart.

I liked Director Krennic though; he really felt like he belonged in Star Wars. Warfare was also portrayed more realistically in this movie.

Better than the prequels, surely.

I saw the film twice, and liked it equally both times. I did find my mind wandering during the first half on the 2nd viewing however. Maybe it is a bit slow early on. Its not the actors but the SW universe that catches your attention. I think as soon as Jedha City is destroyed, the film picks up the pace double-time - Vader, rebels, land and space battles, death, more Vader! And I have no problems with CGI Tarkin.

I liked all the characters and they are growing on me more, limited as their screen time was. The only one I don't really care about is the oft-mentioned "Saw". I don't know his character even though I did watch much of The Clone Wars (can't remember him). So I didn't related to him at all.

How about that K-2SO, though! :)

Then he must have been from the "Rebels" animated show that I know nothing about. This is news; I thought he was an original character they came up with for the movie.

Guess not. That was lies! Deception!
