Platform fun

I decided to give another go at putting some code from my Upmonsters game into this minigame. This time it worked, for the most part. You can now continue jumping on the same platform without risking it going away and scrolling down to disappearing. I don't know, though, it seems like I've made the game too easy. I wish someone could give me feedback on Pokemon Mini games, but the forums have been dead for a few weeks now despite my posting in them. I'm the only one who has yesterday and today.

I've uploaded a video of the game on my website about it. I am weary of posting it on YouTube, lest the Big N finds out I'm using their characters in a game. It's a pity we have dumb copyright laws. If someone else used characters I've made, I'd be flattered, not offended. But, oh well. If you're one of the few who has downloaded the PokeMini emulator, you can find my game here: http://www.atari2600land.com/pokemonmini/pokemonpartymini2.html

Even if you don't have PokeMini, watch the video. It's lovely. I woke up at 1am, so I've been awake for about 3 hours now. It's now 4am where I am. Trying ever so slightly to adjust it so I get up in the morning like a normal person. I kept waking up every few hours, so I decided to get up and quit trying to go back to sleep. I went to bed at about 4pm. Even though I was so sleepy, I went to the game store and bought 2 Game Boy games. Now I have 99 of them. So close to 100.

Here is a screenshot of my Pokemon Mini mini game I'm currently working on.

Sorry, I do not have a PokeMini, nor will I bother with the emulator. I did watch the video just now and have to say that it looks very good.

I do not really know the capabilities of that device, so I can't tell whether it's pushing the limits or just barely utilizing the hardware, but it looks good.

My only feedback would be similar to what I offered for the Intellivision game originally:

  • The jumping needs work in the same way that the Intellivision version did.
  • It has that "double-sized" jump syndrome, where the first time you bounce on the platform it goes much higher than the rest of the bounces on the same platform. This makes it go off the top of the screen too much.
  • The vertical speed of the jump seems a little sluggish. Whenever you move side ways, it looks really fast; but up and down seems too slow.
  • The application of gravity feels a bit odd. See if you can do the same thing as with the latest Intellivision version, so that it goes up then down smoothly without stopping at the top for a frame.

Other than that, it looks like a perfectly nice mini game.
