Nincompoopery

I worked on Nincompoops a lot. I saw there was a Game Boy coding jam, but I doubt my stuff is good enough for it, so I'll pass. Anyway, the game now looks like this:

I redesigned the font, the blocks, and the sprites. Today I put in some sounds. I don't know why, but I couldn't get one of the sound channels working. I copied working code I made into this program, and it wouldn't work. So I used the other channel which is used for muisc-y stuff and made a pleasant sounding "ding!" when Nincom touches a poop. I added a little ditty for the screen. I plan to (if I have enough room) add a new song for each level.

 

I don't know why, but yesterday when I tried to add a song in, it ruined the random poop generating and it got stuck in the wall. But today when I did it, it didn't and works fine. I have had enough for today and tomorrow I will work on beginning of enemy. It will be like the Atari 2600 game "Tapeworm" where the enemy (in this case a fly. I don't know why I have a infatuation with flies. This is game #4 of mine that has a fly in it.) will start at the bottom of the screen and move up at "random" times. I have an idea for the final level. It will be hard.

 

I stayed up longer than I usually did. I woke up at 3 a.m. to see that my computer reset itself and didn't recognize its fan, which is weird because it is a working fan. If it didn't, the computer would be all noisy. So I fixed that and went back to sleep. I woke up at 10 a.m. I keep waking up needing to pee, but I can't get myself up because my head weighs a ton and I can't move it. Paralysis? I don't know. Falling asleep, I tried to think of a word meaning "poop" that didn't have an enclosed space in it to replace the word "TEST". I was lucky enough to remember what I thought of last night this morning and put it in. Other stuff to do if I want to work on this again today:

  • Circle the S in "FECES" more.
  • Move the score and level up.

I don't want to move the grid down because I worked really hard trying to make it work in that position and I don't want to break it. That's why the fly will start at the bottom and move upwards: So you can see where he begins and try to dodge it once it works its way to where you are.
