As fast as you can

Finally, time for another update of Gingerbread Man!

There have been lots of changes, and I don't feel like listing them all, but I'll mention a few:

- Sounds, scoring, lives, different bosses, continue feature

- Bonus timer; When it ends another enemy emerges

- Levels should be less frustrating

- Secret level warp screen (PM me if you want to know how to get there)

- Score changes black if you continue or warp (to reveal cheaters  )

The final boss will be unreachable to those with a black score to encourage people to actually play the game the right way. Plus, continues won't be allowed on this screen, though they are now. For testing you can see the WIP final screen by pressing select on the first level. This screen is not too playable yet.

You're supposed to be at the bank of a stream and the funny-looking sprite is supposed to be a fox swimming in the water. The perspective is a little funky - I'm not sure how well this works.

I think I need some help with the swimming fox! It's an 8-wide sprite with a 4-wide missile that's supposed to be his back that you can jump on in a pinch.

EDIT: new version that doesn't start a level over when you die and 2nd screen is fixed:

:)

Very frustrating when you have to start a level over from the beginning when you die. Better to have no continues but keep your progress when you die.

EDIT: Frustrating as in curse-at-game-and-stop-playing frustrating. :)

That's actually really easy to fix, though wouldn't it make the game too easy?

I dunno. That's why I suggested no continues. It's always a fine line; you probably want more opinions on the difficulty than just mine. :) ;)

I posted another version above that doesn't start over when you die, though it does when you continue. Is this better?

Much better. :) I was able to finally beat the bouncing-tree-root level, level 4 I think. What is the level 5 supposed to be? Anyway, beat that and went to the 2nd round. :) Level 2 the 2nd time around seems unbeatable, maybe buggy? One of the balloons (or whatever...) didn't disappear when I grabbed it, in fact once when I grabbed it another balloon (already grabbed) reappeared! And when I grabbed the other balloons, the ungrabbable one moved around, finally coming to rest inside the leftmost wall. ;) Or is this just an especially tricky puzzle? :)

I do think it is too easy now. Limit the number of continues?

After playing through the levels, I'd say the difficulty is very uneven.

The 5th (!) level is the easiest; only two enemies who are easy to avoid.

Ranking the rest of them, from easy to hard:

5th

1st

2nd

3rd and 4th are tied for hardest.

The jump in difficulty from level two to level three is especially large. Making you collect fewer ladder pieces on level 3, at least the first time through, would help. As it is that level takes by far the longest.

I hate to act stupid here, but what is the point of the game? I got to the top of the 1st level and nothing happened. I even got one of those things that rests above the gingerbread man's head.

Yeah, I'm having trouble figuring that out, too. I got it down to two purple balloons, but can't make them disappear. When I touch them, my score goes way up, and a pink balloon appears nearby, but I can't ever grab it.

The bumblebee is a nice addition. :)

Unless you use Save States. :)

Reminds me a little of Frogger: ThreeDeep

Oops, that screen with the balloons apparently has a bug - I'll post a fix above in a moment.

Also, the 5th level is the boss screen, where you battle the cat, dog, then a pig, and ultimately the fox.

I tried to make the 3rd screen easier by giving you a head start as suggested.

The difficulty level doesn't need to be even, though it should be harder the 2nd, 3rd and 4th times around for each screen.
