The NES has no R-Types!

Hi there!

What I mean, there's no other noteworthy horizontal scrolling sci-fi shoot'em ups on the NES letting you control a space ship, besides Gradius and every other level of Life Force. And a totally ruined Uridium conversion in the form of the Last Star Fighter.

Is that really all? There must be more, no?!?

I'm truly perplexed in case.

Greetings,

Manuel

;)

I just registered for an account with Mobygames, for essentially the same purpose - to clean up some of the categorizations and also to contribute to the A8 database.

Heh, it worked!

"Action on Protection" got moved to "Arcade, Avoid it".

Mission State: 2/244 approved for "Shoot'em Up, H-Scrolling"

Only 242 more games to verify ;)

Just wanted to say that I tracked down an OVER HORIZON ROM and it is impressive indeed.

EDIT MODE allows you to set how you want your powerups and try them out. There's a little mini tutorial, which helped in getting down the powerups and holding A+B

Sound is great, graphics are really nice, somehow it doesn't feel like you're playing on an NES.

I'll try to stay away from Over Horizon until I get one from eBay ;)

As for the Lemon64 database improvement mission:

"Arnie" got moved into " Shoot'em Up, Multi-Scrolling". I made suggestions for moving another 5 games into IMO better suited categories, which either got rejected or are still under review.

Anyway, I'm done with inspecting all titles beginning with "A".

So far I can recommend Armalyte :D

Just spent a little time playing Over Horizon and wow! ;) That is fantastic!

I've also played some Section-Z and Air Fortress over the last couple of days; Air Fortress is pretty bland (and about half platformer) and forgettable, Section-Z I like well enough.

The Sega Master System also got a fine selection, even including R-Type itself:

Aerial Assault

Choplifter

Cloud Master

Fantasy Zone

Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa

Forgotten Worlds

R-Type

Sagaia

Submarine Attack

TransBot

Just found a few more: Sky Kid (coin-op conversion), The Hunt for Red October (!), BreakThru (coin-op conversion).
Red October is available in PAL form, so I added it to my eBay searches, just in case :)

Thank heavens it made it into the HSC, before I managed to buy me a copy... :) :)

S.C.A.T. is called "Action in New York" here. Well, I added that and Dropzone to my eBay searches but for the others Nestopia must do once again.

I should mention that this is one marvellous game. I just managed to beat it and it really is a "must" to have in my NES collection, sitting right next to Gradius.

It even has an "enemy mothership" level like R-Type :)
