Wii Reviews: Super Mario Galaxy

If there's one thing I can't stand in video games, it's difficulty (which is one of the reasons I like the Atari 2600). Unfortunately, Mario's latest game falls into this category. Mario has been slipping in quality ever since he entered the 3D era with Super Mario 64. While SM64 and Super Mario Sunshine were great games, they could never compare to Super Mario World or Super Mario Bros. 3. But, I digress. Anyway, if I were given one word to review this game, it would be "HARD!" Even New Mario Bros. was hard, but I managed to see the ending. But it would take a miracle for me to beat this pile of garbage. I lost like three lives trying to get past the first mission in the first level before saying "This game's being mean to me" and ejecting it. Luckily, if I ever want to return to this game, I have 4 lifes left, but I don't think I'll be doing that soon, if ever. In the past, some games have started out hard and then have gotten easier. Mario Kart DS when I first played it, was super hard. Now it's easy and I've unlocked everything. But whoever thought of Mario having only three hits before he dies should die a slow and painful death. In previous 3D Mario games, it was 8. Why did they have to make the game HARDER?! And it took me 10 minutes to catch those three stupid rabbit things. And I tried the spin move on the Piranha plants, but they kept on chewing on me until I was dead. Maybe if they had made the spin move keep lasting until I stopped shaking the remote, I might have gotten past the first level, but noooo, it ends and you have to reset the move, and right after the spin move ends (and before you can start another spin move), the stupid plant eats you. HARDD!!! I think I'll go back to Wii Sports now until I get Mario Kart Wii. Let's hope Nintendo hasn't screwed that one up.

final rating: 3/10.

Wow. I'm sorry to hear you are having so much trouble with SMG. I love this game and found the early levels to be challenging, but a good primer for the rest of the game. If it helps any, the quirkiness of the gravity and rotating playfield kind of calm down after the first few worlds and it is more like a standard Mario game.

Keep at it. I think SMG is one of the premier games for the Wii. It does take some getting used to though.

I actually thought that this game was extremely easy. I beat it in 2 days and collected all 120 stars on the 3rd day of owning it. Then I went through the game again and beat it for the second time on day 4 as Luigi. I actually had more trouble collecting all of the stars in Mario 64 because some of them were so well hidden. I think that of the 3 3D Mario games Super Mario Galaxy is the hardest followed by Mario 64 and then Mario Galaxy being the easiest.
