Playing Renegade (NES)

Hi there!

The night before the grande finale of the EURO 2008, I found time for a another quick one:

Renegade that is, a conversion of a Taito arcade game! I'm not sure if it was the first, but it was defintely one of the first wave of brawlers. When you've seen one of them you've seen them all I guess, so this one didn't excite me that much. I don't even know what I was fighting for this time, but I'm sure some evil guy did some really evil things :ponder::lolblue:

So you're relying on your fists once again, fighting everyone in your way to the endboss. The graphics are pretty ugly, especially the women in mission 3. The music is above average though.

The game feels a bit short, because after the mission 4 boss it already said:

Well, I think that's a genre that was just too young on the 8-Bit machines. Sometime later on the Genny did it really shine with Golden Axe and Streets of Rage.

Some future day the "Playing..." series may see its sequel "Target Renegade", but first it will continue with something rather comical I think.

Greetings,

Manuel

This was one of my favorite games growing up. It's not the best game in the world, but I think that the good memories with this game is what keeps me coming back for more. I hate fighting the big fat chicks, but I love sitting on them and punching them in the face.

Nah, there are plenty of good NES brawlers - Double Dragon series, Battletoads series, TMNT series, P.O.W., and, of course, (overhyped IMO) River City Ransom.

They all have some flicker issues (especially the TMNT ones) but still fun. :)

I remember renting (or borrowing?) Renegade way back when - had a lot of fun with it, though it is surpassed by many others.

Hm... not here. I haven't played River City Ransom yet, but the others all feel too limited on the NES. Actually I don't like _any_ version of Double Dragon while I'm at it.

Hm... thinking of it, much worse, I don't even like any Capcom Brawler for the SNES i.e. no Final Fight 1-3, Knights of the Round, Captain Commando, King of Dragons, X-Men or Marvel Gem War for me... :)
