Hi there!
For this entry I probably was busy with a lot more "reading" than "playing" but anyway, I still consider it a game:
At the time (and probably still) a pretty new concept were them Accolade Comics. I think it beat Infocoms Infocomics to the market, but probably tanked just as well
It's not just some detective comic to read. For one is it pretty funny and then is it 1-3 times per panel up to the readers choice how the story continues, either by choosing a dialogue line or by selecting the path for your hero.
Every once in a while the story is spiced up by a mini-game. Yes they were already invetend back then!
What probably killed this kind of game back in the day, besides the horrible music, was... the... slow... speed... at... which... the... story... unfolds...
Using the warpmode of VICE it still felt slow, but entertaining. There's dozens of dead ends in the story which are all very funny, so make sure to try all kind of nonsense when playing. (BEWARE: Save early, save often!)
Here's one of the good ends:
This entry was the final "Playing..." article featuring a game from 1987. Before the series continues with games from 1988, it'll pause a bit, while I'm going to write articles on a dozen versions of "Turrican" games next
Greetings,
Manuel
