I'm going to smash my computer

This stupid thing is almost broken, which is probably no wonder since it's almost 2 years old. Just now it says it doesn't have an audio device hooked up to it (which is wrong, it does.) and I can't back files up to CD because the E drive doesn't like CDs anymore. So, after I buy a new computer, I'm going to unplug this one and SMASH THE HELL OUT OF IT WITH A HAMMER! Finally sweet, sweet revenge for the past 2 years shall be mine!

Two years really isn't that long for a computer to last - I've got lots that are way older and still working fine. You would be better just replacing the faulty components (DVD drive & sound card) rather than buying a whole new machine?

The DVD drive lets me plays movies - but with no sound - but it won't let me write files to CD. I have absolutely no idea how to replace a sound card. I just guess that e-machines are crappy and I need to get a better computer.

If you do go with the smashing thing in the end, make a video of the great event. A lot of people love watching that kind of stuff.

I turned it off and back on again and it mysteriously started working again. It recognizes RealTek, and it let me write documents to CD. Weird...

E-machines do have a reputation for early failure. My sister in law had one that lasted only a year. She only paid $300 for it so it wasn't a big loss.

Personally, I dislike any bigbox retail machines, I like to build my own with parts I choose.
