My H.E.R.O. died

Hi there!Shock & horror, I just had to discover that my H.E.R.O. cartridge is no longer working properly :sad:Most of the time it'll just do some rolling garbage, but the weird thing is, it will eventually stabilize and play. But when it plays, it'll have various glitches appearing, like flicker in certain areas, or wrong colors in others. The screen will shake and roll in certain situations and after a while the game will just lock-up in weird states. Just as if the content of certain bits is unreliable. That's why I don't think it's a problem of bad contacts either. Games with bad contacts normally don't work at all.Phew... ill fate here. Not only it's my favourite game, but it'll be tough to get a replacement for a reasonable price, because it's known for it's excellent gameplay and sought after. While not extraordinairy rare per se, in all my collection years I still only once came across a copy in the wild, which is the one that I just lost. eBay here I come... :sad:Greetings,Manuel

Hi there!

Phew... I knew it wouldn't be cheap to replace my defective H.E.R.O. copy. I let a first one pass for 14.- Euro, but then went with the second for 10.50 Euro.

Seems to be an interesting item, since a black text label H.E.R.O. can be found neither in the AA database, nor in the PAL rarity guide! :) ;)

Just checked my collection, but no, I don't have any other Activision cartidge with a black label...

Greetings,

Manuel

I don't have any black label Activision carts in my PAL collection either, so it might be a rare one. However, I'm surprised that you didn't simply blow a new EPROM and fit it into your old H.E.R.O. case?

Hi there!

Besides not owning an EPROM burner or PCBs I'm also completely lefthanded for such tasks. Also opening the screws would ruin the label, so restoring it would be a big adventure for me, since I don't have a printer or the right paper either :)

Greetings,

Manuel

Hi there!

Just for a quick udate, my H.E.R.O. replacement safely arrived and it works like a dream. Made it down to level 14 in my first game! YAY!

Greetings,

Manuel
