Geek dreams

Here's what I want to do: I want to make a KIM-1 type device, only "steal" the layout from a calculator (have 8 digits instead of 6) and insert a place to plug in cartridges (or what have you, but not cassette tapes.). My ideal setup would be cartridges, but maybe in place of that have a USB port to download games from my website or something. The only trouble is, I don't know the first thing about assembling computers. Maybe I could pay someone to do this for me. This sounds like one of my friends back in middle school. He was a techie and I was always interested in what he was doing. One time, he was trying to build a secret game console called something like "Cube 32" or something, a 32-bit game console back when SNES was popular would kind of seem like a daunting task. I also credit him for my introduction to the world of Sega, although I was not always quick to react. This was back in the days where I though something other than Nintendo would harm my TV in some way. He hooked up a Genesis to my TV and I played Sonic the Hedgehog for the first time in the mid '90s. Naturally, since I was accustomed to playing nothing but SMB3 and Super Mario World, I sucked at it. Also, he tried (in vain) to teach me some Q-Basic. Sure I knew stuff like "PRINT "Hello World"" and stuff like that (I made three text-based comedic "adventure" games called The Fifth Dimension series where the ultimate goal was to find the ending.) but he tried to teach me stuff like CHR$, etc., which I never quite got the hang of. Well, anyway, back to my dream. If this is possible, and you'd like to help and have the skills necessary to do something like this, please PM me. I also made another 2k bB game in this style based on the arcade game Stacker, which can be downloaded below.
