Omegamatrix
Yeah the UFO is to blurry to make out. One good photo should clear up this mystery. Edited January 11, 2008 by Omegamatrix
Trade-N-Games
hard to photo sorry, this better? Edited January 12, 2008 by Trade-N-Games
Omegamatrix
hard to photo sorry, this better? Perfect!! Exactly what I was looking for. The UFO matches that of the PAL version so the NTSC rom out there is incorrect.
Omegamatrix
Okay, and now my "theory" of where the supposed rom for the NTSC version came from. This is part of a message I sent Rom a while back slightly edited: I started looking for reviews by people that have played NTSC Z-Tack. I found this on DP: http://www.digitpress.com/reviews/ztack.htm Then I noticed at the bottom "Don't fret over not owning Z-Tack (I can't find it either, my copy is on the TV Boy system)". I didn't know what this TV Boy was so I searched and learned about it. I found this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TV_Boy Good old wiki. All the Bomb games are on there I noticed. But wait I found your two lists here and they are way different: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...p;#entry1007873 It got me thinking. Is there a PAL and NTSC version of this thing? I mean Joe played Z-Tack on his but I don't see it on your lists. So I searched more: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...mp;#entry131139 eh? Who's his friend? http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...amp;#entry45541 RangerG says his is NTSC, and the list is supplied by Joe. All the Bomb games are there, and I think this is where the wiki info came from. Notice too alot of them say previously PAL only beside them). Then I found da Bomb. http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...mp;#entry538402 Wow. I think this thing was dumped and that is where we got all (most) of the Bomb games from. It also explains why my Great Escape was different. These guys who made the TV Boy were taking the PAL versions and converting them so of course the real NTSC Bomb carts will be different, or in the case of Z-Tack maybe the Cosmic Town rom was used (only 2 bytes difference). Anyhow I sent Kevin Horton an email from his website but never heard back. I'm not sure how else to get a hold of him. Cosmic Town and the supposed NTSC rom of Z-Tack are very close. Only two bytes different. Surely they are related whether it be through the TV Boy or not.
Omegamatrix
@ Jason Thanks for helping man. You wouldn't happen to have access to a dumper would you? Z-Tack and Wall Defender really need to be dumped. I really believe we will see a different rom for Wall Defender emerge with a scanline count much closer to 262 lines. Rom Hunter
Jason, you're 100% certain it's the NTSC version? Does it still carry the little Q.C. passed N sticker on the back of the cart? I've got two contradicting proofs now! I need a third and final opinion. Trade-N-Games
I have tried all of my bomb carts on different Tv sets and diff Atari systems over the years. I was at a show with them on display and someone said they were pal so I took them around to 3 or 4 diff setups at the show and everytime I turned them on all worked perfect and did not roll and looked the same and then they guy was offering crazy money to buy them. Plus I have had them tested on a few of my setups and all worked. I guess the good thing is that they still work. Only one has the sticker "n" sticker on the back of the cart and my others have the glue spot where it fell off. I am happy with them for my collection and they should be here for a long time so I am satisfied they are NTSC. At some point they will die and just look nice sitting there then who will care then! As for a dump of the rom I dont have any where to do that.

+Psionic
As for a dump of the rom I dont have any where to do that. Maybe someone here in the St. Louis area can help him out with this?
Rom Hunter
Rick's screenshots of his NTSC Z-Tack: So NTSC Wall-Defender and Z-Tack still need to be dumped. Before they are all dead.
AtariAger
I still have my NTSC if someone wants to dump it...it should still be working fine...I'll send it their way. Hopefully it will survive the shipping journey.
Rom Hunter
If you really dare to do this, it would be great.
AtariAger
If you really dare to do this, it would be great. Sure Rom Hunter...just let me know. I'm leaving for Florida on Wednesday...so I should be able to send it out by Tuesday.
Rom Hunter
Where do you live? We've got to find a member somewhere near you with a dumper.
Omegamatrix
So NTSC Wall-Defender and Z-Tack still need to be dumped. Before they are all dead. You know what? If someone has Assault and Great Escape I say do them all at the same time. That way we can compare all the Bomb carts at once. @ Tom I'm sure you'll find someone close will help you. If you don't I can always help you but it'd be better to get someone in the States I think. @ Rom amazing detective work. I can't believe this all started on instinct. I'm glad you want to see Wall Defender dumped too. Jeff Edited January 13, 2008 by Omegamatrix
AtariAger
I'm located in New York, Long Island. Don't know of anyone around here...?
CincYnoTi
The person in question has showed me screenshots of both versions and scans from his NTSC Z-Tack and has AFAIK no reason to mislead me. No, but it's possible he's been misled. If Bomb carts used EPROMs sometimes - as apparently they did - then anyone with few scruples and a basic knowledge would know that he could sell his $10 for $100 if he burns the EPROM with a different image. I'm not saying it terribly likely, but this is why you should never base knowledge on a sample of one. A second opinion from Rick or Marco should re-enforce the theory, though.... It would be interesting to see if any of the NTSC Z-Tack owners from that old post have the version with the bogus ROM. AtariAger, you might want to verify which version you have before sending it to be dumped.
Tempest
So which screen belongs to the NTSC version and which belongs to the PAL version? Tempest
Rom Hunter
Rick's screenshots belong to the NTSC version. The PAL version has the same graphics.
Tempest
Rick's screenshots belong to the NTSC version. The PAL version has the same graphics. So what's the deal with the screenshot that has different colors and graphics? Tempest
Trade-N-Games
So how can you tell? Im lost. Mine is a different color amost everytime I hook it up with a diff tv or atari!
CincYnoTi
I believe the difference in the NTSC roms is the shape of the spaceship (and the skull/crossbone vs ball). From the graphics in this thread, I think this is what is being called the correct graphics for the NTSC rom: and this is the incorrect graphics (possibly a hack of Cosmic Town):
