rygar
Hello. I appear, I call me Jean-Philippe, I am 30 years old and I am a fan of lynx for soon 20 years. (Saddened for my bad English. I was not a very good study.) I made a site about my favorite vidéo game but sorry only in French. http://pageperso.aol.fr/zonelynx/ Recently I put myself in the programming. I have a project of game but I would indeed need a little of assistant. I would talk again you of all this soon. I deliver you my first realizations which allowed me to learn rudiments. Nimtene
Welcome! I'm very impressed by the demos you posted. Forty-two, and all of them very amusing. In particular, I like the 3-D effect of the T-Rex "dino" from Jurassic Park. Any lynx fan has got to check these demos out. I'm excited to try these out on a real lynx tonight. A caution to future downloaders, there are a handful of adult themed demos in there as well. Not that I mind. Anyhow, looking forward to hearing about the game you are developing, and again welcome to the community.
Nimtene
Just checked out your website as well, all in french, but plenty of Lynx intrigue! I'm drooling. I'll be very interested to see photos of the Prototype Handy you found. The multi-colored Lynx II are awesome. Lynx II motion sensor, very interesting! Wow, a Lynx with a keyboard attached. Several lynx Kiosk photos, wonderful! Tons of interesting Lynx content available on your website. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for this hint. And what would I need to do/have if I wanted to load these demos into a real Lynx? You need a download cable and a cart that includes a downloader. The download cable is either a cable that includes a chip for convertion the +-12V rs232 signal levels to ttl-levels. Or a USB-ttl-level converter that I mailed about in this forum a while ago. Then you need to boot the Lynx with a cart that has a downloader (S.I.M.I.S. Championship Rally, Lynx Reloaded, Alpine Games, MegaPak... perhaps also others). You also need a piece of software for downloading the cart from a PC. I have one such exe at http://sipo.fi/Mttty.exe Then you just choose Transfer->Lynx file and let the Mttty.exe transfer the data to the Lynx RAM. The few lucky people who own devflash carts may also upload complete cart images as the flash is a writable rom. -- karri

It seems that I will "only" need the cable and your download software, as I own Lynx Reloaded already. I trust that I can make cable like the one described here: http://www.monlynx.de/lynx/bll.html There is a schematic on Bastian Schick´s Lynx BLL page. Will your software work with the cable above? I am asking as there does not seem to be any software on Bastian´s website (dead links). Also on Matthias Domin´s website there are DOS files for uploading stuff to the Lynx: http://www.mdgames.de/lynx_deu.htm Edited March 13, 2008 by jaguar_fan
+karri
Will your software work with the cable above? I am asking as there does not seem to be any software on Bastian´s website (dead links). The bll-cable works with all these downloaders. Currently all downloaders for windows/dos and all cables and all uploader carts are compatible with each other. My Windows version was written years ago and it does not depend on any toolkits. So to my big surprise it seems to work on almost anything. I have also added COM-ports up to 8 ports and non-standard baudrates (31250 and 62500). They are intended for USB-based ComLynx hardware. You need to install the proper Virtual COM drivers that come with your USB-serial dongle if you are using USB based serial ports. Downloading a typical *.o file to RAM using 62500 bauds takes just about a second. With standard PC hardware the fastest available rate is 9600 bauds. In case you cannot run Windows then you can just make your own downloader by adding a small upload header in front of the code and use "cat" to send it to the serial port. Works with Linux etc. cat uploadheader > /dev/ttyS1 cat uploadfile > /dev/ttyS1 unsigned short uploadheader[] = { 0x5081, 0x0010, (((file_len ^ 0xffff)<<8) & 0xff00) | (((file_len ^ 0xffff)>>8) & 0x00ff) }; #define uploadheader_len 6 I believe you have to remove the first 4 bytes of the *.o file before you concatenate it with the header. So there is no intelligent handshaking or anything fancy in the Lynx uploader. -- Karri Edited March 13, 2008 by karri
jaguar_fan
Thanks, karri. Really useful. So, I´ll just make such a cable.
