What classic arcade games came out for NES?

Recommended Posts

I am trying to find out what coin op arcade games were made for the Nintendo Entertainment System and it's a hard thing to find a list of. Does anyone know where I can find one? Everything I look for mentions all the other NES games (Zelda, Metroid, etc.) but I am specifically trying to see what coin ops were done.

I know of some games like Spy Hunter, Burgertime, Pacman, Dig Dug, Paperboy, Xevious, Elevator Action, etc. but I'd like to see a comprehensive list if it's out there. And trying to dig through hundreds and hundreds of all NES titles is very time consuming.

Anyone know what coin ops were made into NES games?

Rampage is missing from that list.

It is on there.

Fantasy Zone on the list is after Rampage on the list I typed. I didn't put the list in complete order.

I edited the list for adding Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! and Thunder & Lightning

If you include the Famicom, the original Dig Dug was also ported to the platform.

Edit - Didn't notice it being mentioned in the post above mine until after I hit post.

I think he was including Famicom, since Space Harrier is there. Also After Burner II in addition to AB. (not sure if AB II came out in the west) And PAC Land

I think Pooyan, Circus Charlie and Yie Ar Kung Fu were also released for the FC, as was Crazy Climber.

yes, Yie Ar Kung Fu is based on the MSX port, though. Road Fighter is also on the FC. I thought I made a post listing more ports, but I guess I didn't. There's quite a few that weren't released here, including some obscure ports of arcade games that never came out in the west. One really strange one is Lum no Wedding Bell, which is a port of an obscure arcade game named Momoko 120%.

Just to be thorough, what's known as Kung Fu on the NES was called Kung Fu Master in the arcades, and on every other system the game was ported to (including the 2600).

There is also the Famicom-only release of Choplifter, though if I remember correctly it was based on the original single-level computer game, not the multi-level arcade game that came later.

I've got Gauntlet 2 for my NES and I have to say it's a good port. The voices sound almost identical to the arcade version (except they messed up the Valkyrie's voice) and the gameplay feels like the arcade except without the narrator.

I also like Arkanoid.

SUPER MARIO BROS.

Um news flash! Super mario bros. is NOT and arcade game

UM, NEWS FLASH!

Vs. Super Mario Bros. was ported to an arcade cabinet. The game was subtly different from the NES version.

http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=10371 Granted it is not Arcade -> NES, rather being an arcade port of an already made NES game, but it is still an arcade game nonetheless.

Kung Fu Master was originally named Spartan X in Japan. The Famicom Choplifter, oddly enough, is based on the Sega arcade game, rather than the computer game. It's a terrible port, but it has all four levels of the arcade, unlike the SMS version (which is a nice port despite the missing level).

. That reminds me, there's actually a Famicom port of Altered Beast, though it goes by the JP name of Jyuouki. Edited by BrianC

Also After Burner II in addition to AB. (not sure if AB II came out in the west)

Even though the game itself says "After Burner II," the box and cartridge just say "After Burner". The Sunsoft and Tengen versions are essentially the same, with some improvements in the Sunsoft version.

I was talking about the later game with different graphics and voice samples added, I've played ROMs of all 3 and there are only subtle differences between the sunsoft/tengen versions, "After Burner II" (which may have been famicom only) has the "fire" and explosion voice samples like the MD AB II.

I think some have even mentioned that the Arcade appeared prior to the NES release (or at least the nationwide release with SMB pack-in), I'd me interested in knowing if the arcade game was introduced in japan before the famicom version.
