ComputerSpaceFan
I am trying to find out what coin op arcade games were made for the Nintendo Entertainment System and it's a hard thing to find a list of. Does anyone know where I can find one? Everything I look for mentions all the other NES games (Zelda, Metroid, etc.) but I am specifically trying to see what coin ops were done. I know of some games like Spy Hunter, Burgertime, Pacman, Dig Dug, Paperboy, Xevious, Elevator Action, etc. but I'd like to see a comprehensive list if it's out there. And trying to dig through hundreds and hundreds of all NES titles is very time consuming. Anyone know what coin ops were made into NES games? godslabrat
Maybe too obvious, but... TMNT II: The Arcade Game. Not classic, but many of the other games on that list are post-classic as well.

8th lutz
Rampage is missing from that list. It is on there. Fantasy Zone on the list is after Rampage on the list I typed. I didn't put the list in complete order. I edited the list for adding Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! and Thunder & Lightning Edited December 1, 2008 by 8th lutz
BrianC
Bubble Nobble (Bobble Bobble) Snow Brothers Super Sprint Contra Trog Gradius P.O.W Prisoners of War Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Arcade game Karate Champ 10-Yard Fight 1942 1943: The Battle of Midway 720 degrees After Burner Alien Syndrome Alpha Mission Arch Rivals Arkanoid Athena Bad Dudes Vs. Dragon Ninja Ballon Fight - I think this one originated on NES Baseball - ditto Mighty Bomb Jack Double Dragon - A bit different from the arcade Rampage Fantasy Zone - has two NES ports, the JP version is different Space Harrier Shinobi Bump 'n' Jump - A different game from the arcade, maybe more of a sequel. Arcade was originally named Burnin' Rubber in Japan, but JP FC version is named Buggy Popper. Captain Skyhawk - KLOV mistake, version listed is just the NES game on Playchoice 10 Castlevania-completely different game from the arcade version Commando Cyberball Cabal Boulder Dash - Originated on 8-bit computers. NES port is not based on the arcade. Chiller City Connection Code Name: Viper Cobra Comand Dig Dug II Donkey Kong Donkey Jr. Donkey Kong 3 Double Dragon 2: The revenge Double Dragon 3: The Scared Stone Double Dribble Dragon Spirit: The New Legend Dragon's Liar - different from the arcade Duck Hunt - I think the NES one came first Spy Hunter Burgertime Pacman Paperboy Xevious Elevator Action Excite Bike - another game ported to arcade, but this was ported to FDS with some extra 2p modes as Vs. Excitebike Flying Warriors- known as arcade game "The Shanghai Kid"-I think the NES one is a later game in the series rather than based on the arcade game Gaiapolis - unofficial pirate from Sachen Galaga Gauntlet - different from the arcade Gauntlet II Ghost's N Goblin's Defender 2 Golf - I think this was ported to the arcade Guerrilla War Gyruss Hatris - I don't think this originated in arcades Heavy Barrel Ice Climber Hogan's Alley - I think this was ported to the arcade Ikari Warriors Ikari III: The Rescue image Fight Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's Super Off Road Jackel (Jackal) Joe & Mac Joust Karnov Kid Niki Kiwi Kraze - Arcade game known as New Zealand Story. EU version is named New Zealand Story, renaming only for the US (and quite odd) Klax Kung Fu Kung Fu Heroes- arcade game known as Chinese Hero Legend of Kage Legendary Wings Life Force Lode Runner Magamax (Mag Max) Mario Bros. - ported twice. Second version is named Return of Mario Bros in Japan and Mario Bros Classic in Europe. JP version has ads, but EU version has the introduction screens missing from the first NES version. Marble Madness Mechanized Attack Millipede Ms. Pac-Man - ported twice, first version has extra modes and levels Narc Operation Wolf Pac-Man Pac-Mania Paper Boy Pinbot Popeye Power Blade - Not originally an arcade game. Another Playchoice 10 game listed on klov. Pro Wrestling - I think this one was ported to the arcade Punch-Out - different from the arcade Puzznic Q*Bert Qix R.C. Pro-Am - Playchoice 10, just the NES game ported to arcade Raidbow Islands (Rainbow Islands) Rally Bike Rampart Renegade Road Runner RoadBlasers (Roadblasters) Ring King Rolling Thunder Rush 'n Attack Section Z Seicross Silkworm Skull & Crossbones - different from the arcade Smash Tv Sky Kid Sky Shark Stinger - not based on an arcade game at all. Original game for NES and named Moreo Twinbee in Japan. Second game in the Twinbee series. Solomon's Key Super Contra Super Pang - unofficial pirate from Sachen Tennis - I think this was ported to the arcade Terra Cresta Thundercade Tiger-Heli Toki Toobin' Track & Field - actually a events from two arcade games combined in one US cart. Track and Field and Hyper Sports, I think. Seperate games in Japan. Trojan Twin Cobra Twin Eagle Urban Champion - I think this was ported to arcade Willow - not an arcade port. Completely different game. Xenophobe Thunder & Lightning Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!- known as Punch-Out!! This is a bit late, but a few of these are pirate games from Sachen or completely different from the arcade. A few games missing are Kickle Cubicle, Adventure Island (official port of Wonder Boy), Gun.Smoke, Star Force, Vindicators, Side Pocket, Ikari Warriors II: Victory Road, High Speed, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (a bit different, but based on the arcade), and the JP only ports like Galaxian and Dig Dug. Atariboy
If you include the Famicom, the original Dig Dug was also ported to the platform. Edit - Didn't notice it being mentioned in the post above mine until after I hit post. Edited March 22, 2010 by Atariboy
DeadlyDiskKun
Good ol' NES and its tons of Arcade portings. Some being amazing, others being not so great but all being quite playable.

(not sure if AB II came out in the west) And PAC Land Edited March 22, 2010 by kool kitty89
SoulBlazer
Then you had a few games that CLAIMED they were based off the arcade version, but was nothing like it. Ninja Gaiden is the most famous example. The front of the box said right on it that it was based off the arcade hit, but the arcade game and NES game are totally different. The Sunsoft and Tengen versions are essentially the same, with some improvements in the Sunsoft version.

BrianC
I think Pooyan, Circus Charlie and Yie Ar Kung Fu were also released for the FC, as was Crazy Climber. yes, Yie Ar Kung Fu is based on the MSX port, though. Road Fighter is also on the FC. I thought I made a post listing more ports, but I guess I didn't. There's quite a few that weren't released here, including some obscure ports of arcade games that never came out in the west. One really strange one is Lum no Wedding Bell, which is a port of an obscure arcade game named Momoko 120%. +FujiSkunk
Just to be thorough, what's known as Kung Fu on the NES was called Kung Fu Master in the arcades, and on every other system the game was ported to (including the 2600). There is also the Famicom-only release of Choplifter, though if I remember correctly it was based on the original single-level computer game, not the multi-level arcade game that came later. GameGirl420
I've got Gauntlet 2 for my NES and I have to say it's a good port. The voices sound almost identical to the arcade version (except they messed up the Valkyrie's voice) and the gameplay feels like the arcade except without the narrator. I also like Arkanoid. Cebus Capucinis
SUPER MARIO BROS. Um news flash! Super mario bros. is NOT and arcade game UM, NEWS FLASH! Vs. Super Mario Bros. was ported to an arcade cabinet. The game was subtly different from the NES version. http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=10371 Granted it is not Arcade -> NES, rather being an arcade port of an already made NES game, but it is still an arcade game nonetheless.

Kung Fu Master was originally named Spartan X in Japan. The Famicom Choplifter, oddly enough, is based on the Sega arcade game, rather than the computer game. It's a terrible port, but it has all four levels of the arcade, unlike the SMS version (which is a nice port despite the missing level). . That reminds me, there's actually a Famicom port of Altered Beast, though it goes by the JP name of Jyuouki. I was talking about the later game with different graphics and voice samples added, I've played ROMs of all 3 and there are only subtle differences between the sunsoft/tengen versions, "After Burner II" (which may have been famicom only) has the "fire" and explosion voice samples like the MD AB II. Vs. Super Mario Bros. was ported to an arcade cabinet. I think some have even mentioned that the Arcade appeared prior to the NES release (or at least the nationwide release with SMB pack-in), I'd me interested in knowing if the arcade game was introduced in japan before the famicom version.
