idea for a game: Ikaruga for 2600

Thinking about that marvellous IKARUGA game

I had an idea for a VCS game

in the same style as Galaxian, you will have group of aliens attacking you

the aliens are two different colors (blue and red)

you have to be a different color to be able to kill them

by pulling the joystick towards you, you have change the color of your vessel

so when you are blue you can kill the red aliens

when the blue aliens arrive

plug the joystick towards you to change to red and be able to kill them

 

but there is a but....

you have an energy gauge, and when it is empty you lose a life

to replenish some energy

you need to shoot at blue while you are blue (or red when you are red)

 

in higher level, a new color appears for you

green, it is neutral, you cant kill or get energy while you are green

so you have to quickly pull the joystick to change to an appropriate color

 

now, being not a programmer , I have no idea if it is possible to do that

but here is my idea

Maybe you could make a proof of concept in Batari Basic. And if others like the game, maybe someone is willing to make a version in assembly.

I had made a Kaboom! clone kind of like this. You could only catch the item that was the same color as your bucket, and the button changed the color of the bucket.
