Save State

Hiya all,

Can I use my SIO2PC cable on my 65XE to save the "State" of the game I am playing to the PC to be resumed later ?

Sorry for a bit of a noobie question - but I use save states when I can because I am really useless at games, and often get pulled away during play by wife & kids !!

Thanks !

Not by itself. There's a piece of hardware called the Turbo Freezer that would allow this, though I don't know how easy it would be to install it in a 65XE (it uses the parallel bus interface, which doesn't exist on the 65XE).

Here's a page with some info: http://www.xs4all.nl/~rdemming/Atari/Freezer/index.htm

The Turbo Freezer seems to be completely unrelated to another upgrade that's just called the Freezer (they don't do the same thing at all).

Is the Turbo Freezer available anywhere?

IIRC a few XE versions are still available from ABBUC, but the XL version is currently sold out.

But, if you like, you can build one yourself: http://www.horus.com/~hias/freezer/

Please read the "00README.txt" in the hardware directory, there are some bugs in the schematics.

so long,

Hias
