Yes, and the guy that specific mod will do it for you if you message him. But I was afraid of the price to have said mods, they look rather pricey. Amazing!! Asaki
I had one for a little while, KB Toys had them for $10 so I figured "Why not?" But the chroma noise problems that the NTSC models suffer from proved too much for me =( http://galaxy22.dyndns.org/dtv/v1/chroma-prob/index.html And the Hummer/PAL models were harder to get a hold of...obviously moreso now than they were at the time >_<

[d2f]Iggy*SJB
As some of you know, I had an original Commodore 64 which I have missed after it broke. Well, I really didnt feel like buying another for the price people demand. Anyways, yesterday around noon a friend showed up at my house with a box of things he no longer wanted, and in that box to my amazement was a very good condition "Commodore 64 Direct-to-TV" unit which is basically like Commodores version of the Atari Flashback 2. C64DTV is very easily modified since its not a clone but instead an actual Commodore 64 all built into a Pro 5000 controller. Possible mods for C64DTV: * port for the floppy disk drive * second controller port * port for a ps/2 keyboard * VGA output * external dongle for cartridges Anyways, I absolutely love the C64DTV; I would recommend it to anyone whom wants to have instant gameplay of 30 classic games. It shows the real Commodore computer text entering screen and is preprogrammed to enter the code for gameplay. But when you hit all 4 lower buttons with the reset you enter a screen which will allow for your own coding. Just out of curosity, what price are people demanding? I have several units I'd part with, and not demand your children.

However, I've seen them "buy it now" (new, sealed) for $50 plus $9 shipping. That is not all the time, of course. Used more like $35-$40 I am guessing. RodLightning
EDIT: Does anyone know where to download a manual for version 1 of the C64 DTV? The manual from the official website is for a later PAL version and doesn't have the same games... I scanned the manual from my NTSC C64 DTV. Four pages in all. +orpheuswaking
I'm just bummed that the NTSC version only allows for one joystick. But I'll mod it at some point.
jamesk
I'm just bummed that the NTSC version only allows for one joystick. But I'll mod it at some point. You can send the scancode for 1 to the PS/2 interface when JS1 is pushed up. Like this guy did. http://www.richardlagendijk.nl/cip/article/item/hacking_the_dtv_1 Another way could be to use a micro-controller. My plan was to remove the controller from a spare keyboard to send the 1. My DTV keyboard is acting weird right now, sending shift-esc when I press V among other things. I was going to seek help on the petscii forums but I haven't gotten forum authorization yet

SoulBlazer
I wish I had gotten this when it came out. I want one, but I don't want pay the crazy prices that they seem to always end up going for on EBay.

My wife found an NTSC one in a Goodwill for $10. It is very neat and fun to play with but I'm not considering modding it into a full C-64. I researched it a bit and found that you can only expect about 95% compatibility at best with the game and demos that push the C-64 hardest most likely to fail.
