StanJr
I saw a six-switch today at an undisclosed location (it may have been a heavy sixer, I don't know how to tell without having another 6-er there to compare the weight, but it did have two odd looking speaker-like gratings on the top of the base) with two joysticks, a set of paddles, a keypad and 3 MEGA crappy games for $40. I passed on it ONLY because I did not have $40, but I did leave my phone number with the guy who runs the joint (not the actual seller) because I was interested. So is that set-up worth the $40 or should I wheel and deal for less?
IceCold
I wouldn't pay it, but if you want a six switch a lot, then you should get it. Considering how much people charge for shipping, you could end up paying more than $40 on eBay for one after shipping, so I guess it all depends on how much you want it. If you're getting it just to have a back up to your main 2600, then $40 seems steep, but if you've always wanted to have a 6 switch, then go for it! So basically, I really don't know and I didn't give you any useful information to make you go one way or the other
CPUWIZ
Depending on the condition and serial number (my own little goal is to get as low as possible), I would say take it because you would pay $15.00,- shipping from anywhere else so you are getting it for $25.00,- which I think is not bad. DeV0
Stan jr Those speaker like gratings, Is this normal? I only have one 6 switch of which i have opened recently. It has these speaker holes and also sates "property of Atari inc, sunnyvale CA" even though it stated underneath to be a hongkong atari wong,, hmm BTW, i just paid $35 aus (bout 18 US) for a 4 swicth woody, worth every cent coz i looks so damn new. CaliColts
Look at it like this, you would likely pay that much or more for that kind of setup on eBay with shipping costs, so if you really want it thats not too bad. Maybe you can talk him down a few dollars to make it nicer. As far as it being a heavy, you should be able to tell by the thickness of the base edge, if it looks strange to you its probably a heavy. Gregory DG
I saw a six-switch today at an undisclosed location (it may have been a heavy sixer, I don't know how to tell without having another 6-er there to compare the weight, Did it have thick edges on the sides, like this (Heavy sixer)? Or were they thin (1978 model)? That's how to tell.
StanJr
As I try to recollect in my feeble mind, I think it was the heavy variety, I didn't pay THAT much attention to the molding, because I was just excited it was a sixer of any kind. I'm going to try that guy again tomorrow or Thursday and check it out, now that I know more of what to look for! Thanks

Jacob Marley
I have one of the original Sunnyvale 6 switch models and the speaker-like grates were actually put in there on purpose. From what I've read, Atari wanted to include a built-in stereo sound option in the VCS, even going as far as to design the round grates on the console housing, but scrapped it at the last minute. I've never opened my heavy sixer, but I would imagine that you'd find the traces or empty spaces on the motherboard where the speakers/sound hardware was to go. It's funny, because when I acquired my 6 swticher, I thought the grates were air vents to allow the console sufficient air flow. Congrats on the acquisition of a genuine Sunnyvale VCS!
