I am looking to sell my VCSp Revision 6 hand-held Atari 2600 made by Ben

Heckendorn. In case you never heard of these, it is a custom built from

machined plastic and parts. You can learn more about these devices at

Ben's Blog. Its a fun little device,

but it has its quirks and I so you won't be disappointed let me

clearly state all the things that are negative about it.

1. I broke one of the rechargable battery connection pins off. I am

sure it is repairable, but not by me. You can still run it off the wall plug.

2. The thumbpad does not work well for diagonal movement.

3. The screen does not display flicker very well at all. So games

without flicker (Activision titles and Older Atari titles) look great. Games with

lots of flicker, like Ladybug, do not look very good. The flickering

sprites become almost invisible.

4. I never used the video out connection on the side of the unit. I

don't have the right cable, so I don't know how well it works.

5. There are no difficulty switches. Both switches are hard wired to A (novice).

Now whats good about it.

1. Its an awesome piece of custom manufacturing.

2. Its a lot of fun with the right games.

3. Its rare.

The serial number on the back is #53, I don't know how many were made in total.

I will include a radio shack power supply that provides 7.5 volts with it.

I am looking for $175 dollars including shipping within the continental USA, or best offer.

I can provide more photos.

Is anybody interested?

YAY! I'll see what I can do about a few of the quirks! I wanted to replace my Ben Portable Atari, and I think this design is pretty cool, so that will work for me.

The flickering... it may just need either a better mod done on the Atari (I wonder which mod he used... his original one, or the one discovered later). It also could be the screen. I have some 3" screens... I may be able to swap out. I don't want to do anything drastic like that though if I can live with the issue. I am curious about the diagonal movement though. There should be an easy solution to that.

The Difficulty switches can always be added, but I think I may just leave that one alone as well. All in all... I can't wait to see this sucker and play a bit of Jr Pacman on it... or something like Dungeon.

The blur issue is surely the screen. LCDs, especially older ones, are notorious for slow response so things like fast movement or flicker, both of which require a quick response time from the LCD in order to display properly, are going to show up as a faint smear, if at all. Perfect example: Sega Nomad. If BH ripped a screen from an old system or old portable TV, there's your problem.

This is from 2003... so I assume that is the case.

I will check it all out and possibly perform the surgery. Well... I have to open it up regardless so I can fix the prong for the battery
