Tanman
Where there programs that only came out on the cassette drive? Or did everything find it's way to cart/floppy? Someone just gave me a cassette drive and didn't know if there was anything to collect. Thanks! Tanman
jacobus
Educational titles like Atari Speed Reading, Conversational French/German/Spanish - anything that had a voice sound track was pretty much cassette only.

walter_J64bit
Most UK/Euro tape games runs just fine on the NTSC A8's I have 15 or more games, off the top of my head the BBSB tape won't boot I have no idea why. You can try out *.cas files using APE to see what does works and what don't. Edited April 21, 2010 by walter_J64bit

atariksi
Educational titles like Atari Speed Reading, Conversational French/German/Spanish - anything that had a voice sound track was pretty much cassette only. And pretty hard to convert to disk without adding some sort of speech synthesizer as the digitize voice would hog up too much memory/disk space. Wrathchild
the BBSB tape won't boot I have no idea why. We concluded here that it is 'region' locked.

Is the cartridge version of that banked like Atari 5200 cart? Too expensive to get that game working.

Oh, I see 'region' locked too bad, the only way to get BBSB to boot on a NTSC A8 is to have a ANTIC PAL mod then?
Wrathchild
Is the cartridge version of that banked like Atari 5200 cart? Too expensive to get that game working. Not only did it use its own banking model but the cleverness is that the speed between bank calls and returns (to the original calling bank) are critical and so trying to do this on other banking models doesn't work. Read here.
Tickled_Pink
In the UK (and probably most of Europe) a lot of stuff was tape only because people were too backward/poor to buy an expensive disk drive. The 1050 was around £150 at one point IIRC. In the UK, parents had been spoiled by cheap little machines like the Spectrum so to fork out £250+ for a computer AND a disk drive was way too much for most parents to swallow. In today's money, that's more like £500 - £600. Most parents wouldn't pay that for a PC for their kids.
