Crimefighter
He has not made an actual cartridge of the game yet - as you can see the game is running off a Harmony flash cart - the game itself is only 8K.
Albert
That looks fantastic! I love Star Castle, very cool to see such a nice looking port on the 2600. I would like to know what bank switching / extra hardware is in the cartridge, if any. He's using a Harmony cartridge for the demo, so that does open up a wide variety of bankswitching/RAM schemes. ..Al
purduecrum
So... it isn't Kikstart or Space Taxi?
Omegamatrix
Impressive, and Kudos to the programmer! This game looks like an ideal Atari game too. Lots of quick action, and fun to play. I'd buy a copy!!
Legend
That is Awesome. I hella want to play it. I almost guessed it might have been a game that was on the vectrex, but couldn't think of which one. I hope he releases the rom too so poor classic gamers with low funds and no more 2600 like me can try it with emulation. Wickeycolumbus
Looks great, very impressive! Not the first time someone attempted to port it though: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?app=blog&module=display§ion=blog&blogid=142&showentry=5136
Philflound
I always loved Star Castle. My guess was going to be Doom. Phil

potatohead
Sweet!! I remember the older threads about this game. One of my favorites too. If / when that's ready for purchase, count me in! It appears to be very nicely done.
Dan Iacovelli
I knew what it was but didn't see the post till now.
SekOner
Wow... Definitely quite an impressive feat of programming. If/when it is available count me in for a copy. Hell, ill even buy a beta copy of what he was showing in the demonstration.
Atari Dogs
I never played Star Castle. So, this game is like Yar's Revenge?
potatohead
Not really. Your ship has ASTEROIDS type movement. Thrust, rotate, fire... The three little guys, sparkling around are deadly, and can be shot. They are there to limit your movement choices. They originate from the center, and hop from ring to ring, until they either jump or are shot free. The fewer the rings, the quicker they get back out there, after being shot. You shoot away the rings, avoiding the little baddies, attempting to shoot the big baddie in the center. When a gap is exposed by the rotation of the three rings, the big baddie takes a shot at you. Big ass shot. That's the game. Keep your ship moving, keep knocking the big baddie down, and face it again, faster, until you can't!
tremoloman2006
Wow! I never thought Star Castle could look so good on the 2600! I'm DEFINITELY in for a copy if/when it goes for sale!
+save2600
Star Castle - awesome! What a pleasant surprise. Something to look forward to in the next few months then? Sounds like a great Christmas present to myself this year
tz101
Does it use CX-40 stick or paddles?
Crimefighter
Definitely a joystick game. The sparks don't even hang on the rings at all...they come at you constantly! I could find a sweet spot and rapid fire at the enemy base and the sparks continuously respawn as fast as I shoot them and make no progress. The hard-chip arcade version of Star Castle is like that. Nognir
looks like an interesting and fun game! Never knew Star Castle before, but I'm looking forward to get my hands on this one.
ntavio
Not Robotron - someone DID try that with that so-called computer keyboard add-on and it was the most "flickery thing they've ever seen" so it's not that one. Not Tempest either, ummm...how many different Tron games have been put out for the 2600 already? In my defense, I was referring to the TRON: Arcade Game. Star Castle. Very Cool. VectorGamer
I never played Star Castle. So, this game is like Yar's Revenge? Well, as you are probably aware that Yar's Revenge was supposed to be a port of Star Castle...
Hydro Thunder
I can't remember for 100% what the Yar's Programmer, Howard Scott Warshaw, had said exactly. But basically, he was charged with making Star Castle for the 2600 and told his bosses it either couldn't or shouldn't be done, and made Yar's Revenge instead. Nice work indeed! I'm eager for this to show up in either homebrew cart form or as a distributable Rom. I wonder how long the guy spent on the project?? Cliff Friedel
Looks like a good port of the game. Well done.
Tr3vor
Hope this doesn't put Yars' Revenge out of business... This game looks very good. for a minute, I thought it was vectrex or a console with vector graphics too...
+LS650
Yeah, very impressive looking. If it plays as good as it looks I'd want to get a copy of the release....
