How to create large disk image

Concerning DOS: either use MyDOS or the new SpartaDosX. Both have their pros and cons, you have to decide by yourself.

For creating (MyDOS format) images I use my "dir2atr" tool. For Linux it's included in my AtariSIO package but I also compiled a Win32 console application. I just updated dir2atr with the latest MyPicoDos 4.05 prerelease and uploaded a new version:

You can find some more info about dir2atr in these threads:

so long,

Thanks for all the info and files. They are most appreciated. It seems there are plenty of options to choose from. I actually own a registered copy of APE but haven't used it much (obviously). I've used the SIO2PC interface quite a bit but I normally use it with this app:

I didn't realize APE was so feature rich.

I know I've seen discussions about using SpartaDos with the SDrive Nuxx but I've only heard mention of it's use with SpartaDos X. I have been unable to get it work with any version other than X. It's not the latest, in fact it's the original cart I'm using. Does anyone know why 3.3 for instance doesn't work? It seems to boot to a point but when the ultra-speed kicks in it locks up.

The default ultraspeed pokey divisor on the SDrive (NUXX or otherwise) isn't the "standard" one of the US Doubler. The non-SDX DOSes assume if it supports high speed, it will be that divisor. If you set the SDrive to the Ultraspeed divisor (I want to say it is either $9 or $A) then it works fine. SDX was made after SpartaDOS 3.2 when there were many more high speed drives that could run at different speeds, so it knows to ask the drive.

You've probably tried v3.3b which is a bit picky if it comes to ultra-speed compatibility.

Use either v3.3a (no ultra-speed support at all) or v3.3c (intelligent ultra-speed detection).
