FlightSuit
Has anybody played this? I just discovered it for the first time a couple of days ago. Very interesting, as it goes way beyond your typical DK bootleg. In fact, MAME lists it as a "hack," rather than as a bootleg. Does anybody know anything about the history of DK Foundry? Was it ever actually in arcades during the original coin-op era, or is it a more recent labor of love created by hobbyists?
Rybags
Seems it's a recent hack. http://mameworld.info/mrdo/dkfoundry/index.html http://www.jeffsromhack.com/products/donkeykong.htm

However, it's such a WELL DONE hack that it's now part of the canon. Hope we see more of this sort of thing.

VectorGamer
Is this Donkey Kong II? If not, what are the differences?

Not sure what the story is behind how this came to be, but I saw the cabinet with my own eyes, when I visited FunSpot last year.

SoundGammon
So far, I think you can only buy the upgrade kit for a Donkey Kong arcade game. Which I'm about to get!

Albert
By request of the Donkey Kong II author, I have removed the ROMs that were posted in this thread. Please do not post them again. Thanks, ..Al
Crimefighter
Apparently the Foundry version only adds the ONE SCREEN and the shooting fireballs from SMB...DK 2 adds four screens.
SexToyKiosk
They need to do this with a few other games. I set up Asteroids, Space Wars, and Starhawk with a graphic of a starfield in the background, which made the games a lot easier on the eyes. But to truly hack a classic game and improve on it rocks! What about Battle Zone in color instead of monochrome, and with new types of enemies? Karate Champ with ninjas that has new moves and new scenes? Ms. Frogger? Super Gorf, with a spinner controller ala Tron that lets you shoot targets from an angle? Gauntlet or Gauntlet II with entirely new characters or even the ones used in Gauntlet Dark Legacy? All kinds of possibilities.
Bakasama
I've seen some data that makes it possible for Asteroids to have multicolor. You don't modify the ROMs but rather the video hardware. I'm sure it's possible to have Battlezone with multicolor. I know I've seen a program that allows the people to modify the levels but not add new characters. Brian O
How do I get them to work with M.A.M.E. ? You have to have the original DK rom in your ROM folder as well, otherwise you get error that certain files are missing. -B

MitchSchaft
Ha, I printed out that DKII cab and cut it up. I haven't put it together yet.
Chuplayer
I just looked up Donkey Kong Foundry and Donkey Kong 2 in MAME. I didn't even know I had them. (Downloaded a fullset.) Foundry seems like it's a demo for D2K. D2K does some pretty wacky stuff. I like it!
HatefulGravey
This is surely the thing that will consume the rest of my day. Learning more about this is a must. Sweet stuff man.
HatefulGravey
I got to play this version today. Its something different alright, and the timing it crazy. There is a super slow elevator board that is challenging and you wouldn't think it would be from looking at it. Slowing that board down that much makes things real crazy.
