Mad Hatter
Hello. Recently acquired a 7800 but I currently have ZERO games for it. When it comes to the 7800, I will be a gamer and not a collector. So I am looking for opinions on some of the best and funnest games available for it. Thanks
The_Laird
You can't really go wrong with any of the arcade conversions (apart from Shat Trick) and all the homebrews I have played are excellent. My favourite game for the system is the legendary Ninja Golf
Rex Dart
Yeah, Ninja Golf is cool. Too bad it's more of a collector's item -- good luck finding a copy for under thirty bucks. Check out these two topics; answers likely haven't changed.
Mad Hatter
Cool, thanks guys. Looks like there's some pretty good games. If anyone has dupes they are looking to get rid of I'm up for purchasing or trading (I mainly just have TI-99 stuff and some 2600 commons to offer). raskar42
dark chambers - plays like gauntlet lite. lots of fun
ZylonBane
Ninja Golf is an amusing concept wrapped around a terrible game. Dark Chamber isn't awful, but it is fairly pathetic compared to any version of Gauntlet (there's only one actual monster type in the entire game). I'd consider the following titles to be worth your time: Asteroids Alien Brigade b*nQ (homebrew Q*bert) Ballblazer Beef Drop (homebrew Burger Time) Centipede Commando Dig Dug Donkey Kong (if you can stand the sound effects) Donkey Kong Jr (ditto) Food Fight Galaga Ikari Warriors Impossible Mission (unfortunately actually impossible unless you get the fixed version) Joust KLAX Mario Bros. Midnight Mutants Motor Psycho Ms. Pac-Man Pole Position II Space Invaders (homebrew) Tower Toppler Xenophobe Xevious Edited December 15, 2010 by ZylonBane
HammR25
Any of the homebrew games sold here at Atari Age are worth the money except Wasp!. Of those games I'd start with Pac-Man Collection. http://atariage.com/store/index.php?l=product_list&c=23
the.golden.ax
The best game to play is Water Ski AX
tz101
How does Donkey Kong 7800 compare to other systems? Does it have the arcade pie factory level missing in all the other home versions?
the.golden.ax
How does Donkey Kong 7800 compare to other systems? fiddlepaddle
I like Beef Drop, Centipede, Joust, AND even Donkey Kong on the 7800. Also, of course, all the great 2600 games like Kaboom, Enduro, River Raid... I generally use a Genesis joystick, not the Prosystem sticks, unless the game requires two buttons. jd_1138
also, don't forget that you can also play 2600 games on it -- classics like Combat that you can buy for a couple of bucks here on the marketplace.
Atarifever
I now officially like every game on the system (since I have learned to play RealSports Baseball with a chance at winning). However, if you're going for a cheap, easy to get, good stack of games you should enjoy, I'd go with: Food Fight Xevious Centipede Joust Mario Bros. Dig Dug Asteroids Tower Toppler DK DK Jr. Crossbow If you're willing to spend a little more, I'd also go with: Alien Brigade Midnight Mutants The homebrews Commando If you want to work to love a game that will grow on you, I'd also go with Pete Rose Baseball and Double Dragon. The sound is weak, but the graphics and gameplay are pretty much dead on. Edited December 16, 2010 by Underball
Mad Hatter
Cool, thanks for the replies. I plan to spend some Christmas money on 7800 titles!
DracIsBack
I love 7800, I do. DK on 7800 is horrible (as they go on other systems). I didn't think it was that bad. Sound was irritating but that can be turned down. :-) Didn't make me enraged like Karateka on the 7800 did.
the.golden.ax
Perhaps it was the stock controllers, or the fact that I'd been playing it on CV prior to my getting them. When I got back into 7800 in 2008, those were the first titles I ordered from Trade N Games. Honestly they were so bad in my mind that I have not tried to play them on 7800 since. I should give it a go with some d-pad controllers and report back. AX
Cynicaster
To this day, I still prefer the 7800 versions of Xevious and Food Fight to the arcade originals.
the.golden.ax
To this day, I still prefer the 7800 versions of Xevious and Food Fight to the arcade originals. Yeah, those two and PMC get the most play out of my 7800. AX
+Propane13
I personally have a thing for Scrapyard Dog. Of course, that's because there are maps loaded with hints available: http://www.atari7800.org/scrapyarddogmap.htm -John
Carey85
I have to give a +1 to Food Fight as well. There are plenty of solid titles for 7800, most of which are cheap. Like others have stated, Alien Brigade, Commando, and Ninja Golf are your best bets as far as uncommon titles go.

Centipede, Joust, Asteroids, Food Fight and Pole Position II are also my favorites.

+swlovinist
Robotron 2084 is my favorite. It is also fun to play with a friend(one moving the character, one controlling the firing). Fast Frantic Fun and relatively cheap
