TrekMD
This really looks awesome! I'm with NE146, it would have been fantastic to have something like this back in the day. But hey, we have it now!
KevinMos3
As you may have noticed, I often try to be as arcade literal as possible. In keeping with this goal, here's another minor change to this hack -- this time the pellets are colored to match the arcade instead of being white. Nerf Herder73
Great job to all involved! I was replaying the Pac-Man Collection Sound Hack. http://www.atariage....ost__p__2071263 I wondered if some of the TIA sounds from the 7800 PMC could be lifted and used in PMAe? WildBillTX
Nice mods, I like the way it looks now. About the only thing I'd improve is the wocka-wocka eating sound. Edited February 9, 2012 by WildBillTX
Brian R.
Nice upgrades. I still think the dot eating sound is too harsh, however.
raindog
Nice upgrades. I still think the dot eating sound is too harsh, however. I agree, but I (and apparently Nukey, and GCC long before either of us) was never able to come up with anything better using the VCS' dozen or so "voices" (really distortion patterns). Can you point out a sound in an existing VCS game that's closer to the arcade Pac-Man dot eating noise?

I asked Bob about this (putting the 7800 Pac-Man Collection sounds into this hack) a while back, but he had other priorities (like Frenzy). SoundGammon
A cool hack would be to change the ghosts to "BEES" from Galaga! Instead of dots, stars, and the Galaxian ship for power dots!
raindog
A cool hack would be to change the ghosts to "BEES" from Galaga! Instead of dots, stars, and the Galaxian ship for power dots! You'd be making some sacrifices (I think you'd need more frames of animation for the bugs to look right, and you'd be stuck with a single color) but the graphics hack itself should be pretty easy... fire up one of the Hack-o-matics and go for it! +FujiSkunk
The dots and power pellets can't be changed unless you create them with something other than playfield pixels. A change like that would require a lot more than a simple graphics hack. Edited October 7, 2013 by FujiSkunk
raindog
Oh, I misunderstood what he was saying, thought he was talking about the Galaxian ship they used for one of the fruits in the original game.
+save2600
Another great hack! But I read somewhere someone changed the power pellets to yellow... aren't they supposed to be white or light pink/skin color? it's Ms. Pac-Man that has yellow power pellets IIRC. KevinMos3
Another great hack! But I read somewhere someone changed the power pellets to yellow... aren't they supposed to be white or light pink/skin color? Looks like you didn't read just a few posts above. BTW, you can also find it in my hacks thread.
BrianC
nm. The dots looked yellow in the thumbnail, but are actually pink. The dots look more white than pink to me for the arcade, which has pink power pills. Edited October 11, 2013 by BrianC
Nerf Herder73
I asked Bob about this (putting the 7800 Pac-Man Collection sounds into this hack) a while back, but he had other priorities (like Frenzy). Oh! I didn't know that PMP needed to change the sounds himself. I had assumed that the sounds could be found in the released source code and swapped by someone else. There's no need to hold up the train of awesome heading to the 7800.
BrianC
He redid the sounds for Pac-Man, though the sounds for the original 7800 Ms. Pac-Man are still better than the 2600 Ms. Pac-Man's and use TIA. If possible, I wouldn't mind Ms. Hack or the 2600 Ms. Pac-Man being hacked to use the 7800 sounds.

raindog
I miss him. Horrified to hear the news, and that it took a year and a half to confirm. I suppose that's the way it'll be with most of us, those who never see other AtariAge members in real life. Kurt was a hell of a guy, and I miss not only his presence, contributions and bottomless generosity here, but our (rare) private conversations that touched upon other subjects than racing the beam. The world sucks a little more without him. 3
