Two decades down the line and i still can't understand quite where Commodore thought they were going with the C64GS despite owning a few and even having one on the OSG stand at Replay. Atari pretty much wrote the books on boner moves like that. The 5200? Really? The thing was huge for one, was old tech for another, and then wasn't even compatible with the large library of 8-bit games already on the market. Yeah - but Atari did it first, and fell flat on their face. Commodore had the benefit of watching and saying 'oooh-kay. that was a bad idea.' - so what was their bloody excuse? At least Amstrad added some sprite hardware to their offering to improve things a bit, and if they'd done that in the mid-80s I'd have been quite jealous of CPC owners. shame it was the 90s... I've worked in an injection molding plant before, and many items used both colored plastics and paint for the plastic parts. They could have (after figuring out the color sucked) changed color. That C128 prototype though... is that serious? The shape isn't so bad, maybe even usable if you soften up the edge below the spacebar to make it more comfortable but was the designer *trying* to piss people off putting the cursor keys up there? Nextstep became Mac OS X after Jobs sold Next to Apple.. I don't think the $400 million Apple paid Next for it was technically a disaster from his point of view! What's also of interest is the other operating system that Apple was considering buying at that time to found the new OS was BeOS, which whilst awesome, was shot up the arse by the retarded and infamous 'focus shift'.. And you will not have in that new Mac PCs Digital Signal Processor: 25 MHz Motorola DSP56001 which was in ATARI Falcon too. And which is capable of one of best softsynth ever made (AceTracker)... So todays Mac PCs are avarage notebooks like VAIO by SONY or my MSi gaming notebook... Hope Apple will release MACOSX official for all PCs like Windows 8 next year... If not they will FAIL! Hell you could do everything people do in business today using Windows 2008 server with the NEXTSTEP 3.x OS environment....without any lag or crashing The C64 had superior specs to the Amiga in 1990, 256 colours at 320x200 out of 4096 palette with a blitter chip and six channel sound. I don't know what the production costs were though, and obviously games of that quality would never fit on cheap cassettes so immediately you get a £150-200 price hike! But the hardware would have produced better games than on the A500 in 1990. If you mean fail because the price is too high maybe, but the hardware went far beyond Amstrad's CPC PLUS upgrades or the C128 or the 130XE etc etc. It would have made better games than an STFM too (because of more colours and better sound hardware with twice the channels for good measure) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
