castlewolfenstein
Ebay canceled my Commodore 64 and Sega Game prototype auction. They told me no Beta or Testers can be sold on the site.I think this is due to all the fake NES and Atari protos that were sold several months ago. They do allow hardware prototypes though. CPUWIZ
No they don't because the seller that had a CX-2000 for sale got his pulled as well. If you list them as proto or lab-loaner they won't notice.
castlewolfenstein
Your listing was removed from eBay because it offered material which appeared to violate someone's copyright, trademark, or other rights and may create potential liability to all parties involved. Therefore, these types of listings are removed. As a matter of eBay policy, "Beta," "test," "prototype," and "evaluation" copies of software may not be offered on the site, regardless of the legality of a particular item, unless the seller is the copyright owner. These items are preliminary copies that are distributed by software developers strictly for the purpose of evaluation and troubleshooting. However, this policy does not relate to hardware items. As long as the prototype hardware does not contain any potentially infringing software, the items are generally permissible on eBay. CPUWIZ
I think you didn't read my response properly. They don't even allow hardware prototypes, they guy selling the CX-2000 got that exact same email because he listed the CX2K as "prototype". CPUWIZ
Why did they cancel the CX2K then ?
castlewolfenstein
eBay does not monitor their auctions. The reason these get pulled is because of the snitches out there.eBay did tell me that Sega,Nintendo,ect.. Do have employees monitor eBay auctions though. Also I don't think changing the title will work for too long.
castlewolfenstein
If it was my auction I would contact eBay and dispute it.
JCroniger
I'm tired of these people that decide they need to monitor Ebay. They need to get a life and leave the auctions alone. I think only the company or the original programmer should have a claim to the item. Otherwise, it's fair game. For some reason, I find it hard to believe that Ifogrames really wants back Atari 2600 lab loaners. Oh well, Just my 2 cents.
CPUWIZ
I know about the snitches, I work in the industry and I know people from Sony and Nintendo who do this sort of thing all day long. In fact, at the last Nintendo E3 party I talked to one of their lawyers and she told me they hired a hacker from France to do NOTHING but spy on people on the internet all day long. Why would anyone care about old Atari protos though ?
JCroniger
I could see collectors wanting to get them, but not to stop auctions. That's silly. If it wasn't for Ebay, it would be extremely difficult to get unusual items, prototypes in paticular.

CPUWIZ
Probably Genesis, I've gotten a Genesis proto or two from him before.

jjessop
The pressure to lower fraud is probably why Ebay pulled the auction. Here is a recent auction on a game related item, total fraud BTW. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=1949539747 I contacted the owner twice asking him to correct the auction and state the real facts but he basically told me to screw myself. It's stuff like this that screws up legit prototype auctions. Everyone should be suspecious of any proto item for sale on Ebay. I sold a 2700 RC Stella on Ebay 2 years ago so I have been on both sides of auction. Consider every item fake until proven otherwise, that may be the attitude Ebay is now taking. jerry

I remember those type of controllers for the PC, but they were pretty short-lived. ..Al
moycon
Yes I still have one at home. They were supposed to be awesome for 1st person games like Quake and Duke Nuke Em. I can't recall the name off the top of my head.

Curt Vendel
Looks like an evolved version of the Spaceplayer 3D-I controller that was designed for the Jaguar 64 back in 94: http://www.atarimuseum.com/videogames/JAGVRJOY.JPG Playing Iron Soldier with that controller on the Jag may have improved gameplay. With the types of environments that are possible on the PS2, Xbox and Gamecube a controller like that 3D Ps2 controller makes sense for 3D control. Something like that would've been really beneficial for the old Sega Saturn when Sega Knights came out. Curt

I think those auctions should be labelled as Reproductions and not prototypes or lab loaners as that is a more accurate desciption.
