Rev
Dont listen to some of these guys that are lead around by their wives by a leash. Real men do what they want and dont need permission. Also, It bothers me when people say "my wife is making me to sell my game collection"...............time to MAN UP and just tell us you are selling your collection for beer and lottery tickets. Anyway, Crazy Climber, Build your room, it will be awesome!!!!!! p.s.......How long will it take to go from your secret game room to your secret porn room.....probably not long based on your last comment!!! Pixelboy
My Wife would not leave me over it if she found it (which lets face it, she will someday) she would probably just shake her head and laugh. This whole idea, to me, borders on being scary. In a good marriage, there are no secrets. I have known couples that had separate checking accounts, nights out with the pals, etc. and those have generally been marriages headed for a crash. Maybe you have an "open" marriage or something similar, but this does not sound healthy. Not the fact of having the game room, but the whole premise of dishonesty and overall secrecy that is going along with this idea. Now, if your wife is in the know and you two agree to building some secret passageway through a bookcase into a hidden game room, then great. Maybe to hide the valuables from the grandkids or possible thieves. Just let the wife know up front. Seriously, you guys are too funny. It's a hidden game room, not a dead prostitute, lol Some people just don't get the tongue-in-cheek angle of your original post. Like you could actually keep this room a secret from your wife for any length of time... Geez...
31336haxx0r
It's a secret room. His wife knows about this room. So it isn't a secret to her and he isn't lying at all. I don't get the point at all. AWESOME!! Difference between "real men" and men who tell lies. Who's being led around by a leash after all? Crazy Climber
make a hidden room that your wife knows about. I still think its goony that you have to hide your quantity of purchases from your wife. Does she hide the quantity of clothes she buys? Does she get a secret room to prance around in new outfits in? lol I know I already responded to this one but I just asked my Wife about this and she brings up an intersting point...if she did have a secret room I wouldn't know about it, lol. Anyways, we have briefly discussed our frivolous purchase in the past and we have both agreed that she does not want to know that I paid $500 for Battlesphere Gold just as much as I do NOT want to know about the $500 Italian leather boots she bought. We stay within our budget and don't tell each other what we paid for stuff, it's not lies, it's not marriage ending, and I assure you many other married people do it weather they are aware or not
jaybird3rd
You guys might have cool wives that love classic video games but I surely do NOT! lol These kinds of issues always puzzle me (and take this for what it's worth, since it's coming from a lifelong bachelor who is without prospects). Don't people take the time to negotiate about hobbies before they agree to get married? If I was thinking of getting married, I would insist that a certain (responsibly small) percentage of the family income is set aside for each partner's hobbies and personal interests, whatever form they may take over the years, and that there is to be no complaining from either person over what the other chooses to spend it on. Speaking generally, if you're not spending enough money on your hobby to endanger your finances, and if it isn't taking up too much room in the house, and if it isn't taking time away from other things that you both agree are more important, I don't know why it should be an issue with your spouse at all. If it is, I would be curious about the reason, because it might be only a "symptom" of other problems. Why should anyone object to an innocuous hobby like classic video games? Even if you think it's "stupid", shouldn't the fact that it makes your spouse happy be enough of a reason for you to "tolerate" it?

sqoon
I have no problem with the room, or the hobby. Its the premise on which this thread started out that I questioned. Husbands and wives should respect each others' interests and hobbies, as my wife and I do. I just think that for all the "manly" men who insist on doing what they want without asking for permission, there will come a day where they will need help and the oppressed wife may have a long memory. Snicker and call it needing a tampon if that is your thing, but it is true. Sit back, drink your beer, read your porn mags, and tell the wife its your way or the highway, and don't ask "why?" the day she walks out the door. Real men treat their families with dignity and respect.

Does she hide the quantity of clothes she buys? Does she get a secret room to prance around in new outfits in? lol It's not that we "hide" it, we just don't mention it. Yes, no way in hell my Wife tells me exactly what she spends on clothes, same with my games. I wouldn't lie if approached about it but why let her know, lol.. Anyways, all these responses were just too damn funny so I called my Wife and showed her all you guys that thought this was such a marriage ending offense. As I thought, she laughed hard, agreed that building a secret game cave and hiding video game purchases ending a marriage is rediculous, then proceeded to tell me to use that dumpy room for whatever the hell I want because it's gross and has spiders, lol. I'm still going to hide it, she will forget about it Look at this guys....AtariAge bringing couples closer together, officially, since 2012. Have fun in the new room!

Well sure, in a perfect world my Wife would be just as excited as me that I found a $300 Lochjaw or vice versa that I would be super excited with her about a shoe sale at Macy's but the fact is, most girls don't give a shit about video games and most guys don't give a shit about womens clothes. Thats just life and if you don't accept it you will likely be single forever. There is no perfect atari collecting girl waiting for you, real chics like chic stuff As mentioned, it was more toungue and cheek than anything and we do share the same checkbook and bank account so if she really wanted to know what I spend on games (or vice versa/clothes) we could both easily do so. I am just amazed at the amount of people that are so shocked at my idea? I mean some of the responses have just been rediculous...What if my family "needed" me while I was in my secret room, lol, serious? Or "a room full of lies" lol. C'mon man, thats just silly...what if I bought a game laced with Anthrax or what if one of my video game systems shorted and started a fire burning the house down, lol Simply put - Guys have been wasting there money on stupid purchases without telling there wife the true cost since the dawn of time and the truth is they are happier not knowing just as I am happier not knowing what her perfume or shoes cost We stay in budget, and buy whatever the hell we want

I never said that couples have to have the same hobbies, or even that each person has to like what the other person likes, only that they should agree how much time and money their respective hobbies should consume. I think it's also helpful if each person does what they can to respect and appreciate the other's interests, if for no other reason than to keep as much in common between them as possible (surely an important goal for married couples, one would think). Granted, that might be more difficult with clothing and shoes and perfume, but strictly speaking, these are not "hobbies", per se; they are accessories. I don't treat my family with respect because I wanted to build a secret gameroom they didn't know about. Trust me, with 90% of women clothing/accesories IS there hobby, lol It's just what most chicks are into, thats why when there actually is a girl into video games, rc planes, comics or any other man dominated hobby they basically go up 3 points in the looks department
Cebus Capucinis
There sure is a whole clothesline full of twisted panties in this thread. I think it's a bitchin' idea. Not to mention if my wife found out after the fact, she'd just think it's hilarious that I have a secret supervillain lair that she doesn't have access to. She'd likely make me a 'NO GURLZ ALLOWD' sign to put on it, LMFAO. Some of us have cool marriages and don't have to worry about little shit like this, if you guys get this worked up over something, you ought to check your blood pressures. When you're done you wanna come build a secret bar-cade in my house?
