Dead easy. When an image conversion is finished it should automatically preview the final image in whichever graphics program is default on your machine. Mine is irfanview's. As soon as this pops up I just use irfanview's colour count function. 

 

The colour count will be anything up to 128 unique colours. The most I've had Iirc is 123 colours. 

If you have anymore than 128 colours and it shows in the 1000s or 10000s then you are reading the wrong image file. 

 

My conversions probably average out at 50-70 colours.

Very nice image.

Might I suggest this one may benefit from ramping up the colour saturation and contrast and double dithering method (with using the destination image as the source). Darker background could be achieved with the increased contrast, and with higher saturation and double dithering I reckon you get a richer skin tone. 

 

See here where the other day I mentioned how I do this, (using destination image as the source which allows you to do dithering twice) :

Thanks. I'll have a go over the weekend. Maybe yours will still look better. (That's the great thing about experimenting). Great source image though, gives the opportunity to really play with the dark areas of the image and maximise on contrast between light and dark, whilst getting some metallic tones and skins tones. (Man, all this talk sounds like u actually know what I am doing heh heh!!) 😁

 

I'll preprocess it in irfanview and create a mask in paint.net, create a destination image from it with inital Floyd dithering/tweaked rc settings, then add a second layer of dithering, (either ffloyd or jarvis), tweak it more in rc settings, and likely run it for 25000 solutions, (yuv/yuv, altirra pallete) for at least 10hrs. Will see how it cooks.

 

Just to say double dithering means you can use a combo of different dithering algorithms or the same. Adds to the experimentation.

Definitely would recommend to use latest RastaSlide 3.4 Fix Tool rather than the one from 3.3. It was the only change worth sharing for now, but I wanted to get it out there for you guys.

There are still HPOS error lines that will be impossible to fix though where RastaConverter needs the Atari to respond more quickly that the real hardware can actually do (and it seems a really hard fix for new people with good C++ knowledge coming at the RastaConverter code unfortunately)

Taking longer than expected. The story of my life. There's a bunch of issues putting back the NTSC and PAL colour converter which I thought I'd quickly do for MrFish.

Here's an oddity.

 

So I've been using your 3.4 suite all year. The HPOS removal tool in particular. No issues running anything at all.

 

I am in the process of running a standard 320*240 conversion and dumped out an XEX as I do from time to time. I decided to run it through the 3.4 version of the Hpos removal tool as I always do, and for the first time ever with that bat tool I get errors with this image.

 

Yet if I run the same image through the 3.3 Hpos version of the bat it works. 

 

So 3.3 works, finding and fixing two line anomalies with no issues:

 

 

and 3.4 starts ok then gives me a massive error list:

 

 

I've not moved the folder 3.4 sits in or afaik deleted anything in that folder.

 

Any ideas?

Will do. I don't think the xex is an issue as it works fine with the hpos bat tool from 3.3. 

I'll pop over the xex in question via PM later when home and also test 3.4 hpos tool with another xex later.

@Sheddy ok, weird. Given I am still running the conversion for that same image, I dumped another XEX out after a few hours more and that xex runs fine with 3.4. I'll still pop over the version of the image that caused issues but at least 3.4 HPOS tool isn't corrupted. (Quite why the bad xex version worked with 3.3 Hpos I don't know).

 

I had a glaring HPOS line error in the latest xex dump and you Hpos tool removed it - looks great. Will be posing it tmrw.

Please, if you could. It looks like the tool failed to undo a move of a HPOS write which didn't fit in the kernel. That is a bad bug as it relies on that function a lot to know what will work or not.
