+Stephen
206 mil. evaluations. 87 colors. That artwork was SO "borrowed" for use on the 2600 Space Invaders box.
Gunstar
Asia-Arena 586 mil. evaluations. 71 colors. Iron Maiden: Run To The Hills 450 mil. 80 colors. I almost didn't post the Iron Maiden one, I think I can get it done better. Note: Images I post that are in the 100's of million evaluations I could have stopped most under 100 million with similar results, I'm just letting them run over night, that's all. Rybags
That artwork was SO "borrowed" for use on the 2600 Space Invaders box. I don't think I'd ever seen it until here (less common box shown as it has less of the top of the pic cut off)...

Rybags
That's a bit sad actually - here we've been all these years complementing Atari's great box art (even when the game inside was utter crap) and here's 2 that are obvious plagiarism. Have to wonder just how many more weren't original works.

ZylonBane
I assume Gunstar's long-term goal here is to create a RastaConverter image with more colors than his current seizure-inducing sig.

Have to wonder just how many more weren't original works. Remember that Atari, especially in the 70's, was a bunch of hippy-nerds that smoked pot, tripped on LSD and drank mass qauntities, and I'm sure while they were inventing new hardware (like Atari Video Music System) and software like Missle Command and Centipede, they were listening to the music from bands such as these, and it's understandable that they might get inspired in the art department (even if that wasn't actually in-house), from album covers of what they were listening too. It's the times and the culture and mentality of the people behind this stuff. And we are talking about artists, tripped-out, stoned, drunk artists.

Sure, they're in a similar pose but the rest of the details don't line up like in the Space Invaders pic. Anyway, as Einstein (supposedly) said, "The key to originality is hiding your sources." Gunstar
This one is to make up for the last Iron Maiden image that I probably should of held off on. I'll revisit it in the future, in the mean time, here is Iron Maiden "Cyborg." 476 million evaluations. 68 colors. Gunstar
Here is the longest running conversion I've done yet, simply because I forgot it was running for a couple of days! Though it is no better than the last time I checked on it when it was at about 60 million evaluations, I left it running at that point hoping the clouds to the left of the Pyramid would get better, which they did not. Once more proving to me it's not how many evaluations, but starting out with the right settings to get similar results in 50-100 million evaluations. 1 billion, 144 million evaluations. 30 colors. Gunstar
Yes: Ascension. 841 million evaluations. 102 colors. Yes: The Ladder. 102 million evaluations. 71 colors. These were done at the request of Charlie Chaplin. I really don't care for the subject matter myself, compared to the much more imaginative Asia album covers. Rybags
I don't get it - there's no way it looks like 102 colours, if I was asked I'd say half or less. But I saved and used IrfranView and it confirms 102.
Gunstar
I don't get it - there's no way it looks like 102 colours, if I was asked I'd say half or less. But I saved and used IrfranView and it confirms 102. You have to understand that many of those colors may only be represented by a single pixel, even, the YES name is a rainbow of colors. Plus, these images are ALWAYS more colorful looking on a real Atari than in an emulator or the .png image. I see colors in every picture I do when I view them on my 1200XL, that I do not see at all in the .png image or outputs images generated by Rastaconverter, the colors are obviously there in those pictures as Infraview sees them, but they just don't show up in picture as good as they do on my Atari. Maybe they also show up in the emulators, I don't know, I never use them, I'm assuming they look just like the .png image I post, when viewed in Altirra. Besides, I get the numbers straight from Rasta and Infraview. I guarantee any numbers I use are accurate. Below is a screen shot of the image on my 1200XL, though still not as good as the real thing in person. bfollett
I was surprised it was 102 colors too. I mean it's only working off a pallette of 128 colors and there doesn't seem to be any of the 8 black to white gray scale colors so somehow it's using 102 colors out of 120 colors. Yup, I was surprised. Bob

a8isa1
Dave 2001, 152 million evaluations. 48 colors. Gunstar, would you please post notes on how you do these fabulous conversions? My own conversions A) mostly never work having noise everywhere and bands of wrong color or B) almost work but one or two ugly details (even when using a details mask) never clean up or C) I use too strong dithering and the pictures aren't very appealing or D) process unendingly never even getting close to rendering a suitable picture. -SteveS p.s. That said, my pictures of late have been improving. I might even have a few good enough to post. Edited May 31, 2017 by a8isa1
