BloodyRory
I am talking to someone about a trade and they have a Sega Sports Dreamcast that they would be willing to trade me. The only problem is that the spindle needs to be fixed according to him. I don't know how to fix it. I'm just wondering if anybody can repair the dreamcast and how much it would cost me before I do this trade. Thanks.
atari2atari
I have a lot of experience tearing down, modding, and repairing Dreamcast - - I'll take a crack at answering your question. I would hazard a guess that spindle cannot itself be repaired. Instead, what you would be doing is REPLACING the drive mechanism on the Sports model with a drive mechanism from a working unit. That replacement drive mechanism would have a working spindle. So, a base unit that you could grab a working drive mechanism from would be around $20. Maybe lower, if you can score one at a pawn shop or thrift store. HOWEVER there are several different types of Dreamcast drive mechanisms, and you would like to make sure you replace it with a similar one. Replacing it is straightforward one you have it, though. Honestly, I personally would skip the trade - - it doesn't seem worth it for all the trouble! -a2a
