Plenty of "average retro gamer" on this site where many Atari systems that came after the VCS are more than just a footnote in their "consciousness". The above statement is confirmation bias or observational selection at best. What forum are you posting on?

Additionally, it comes across as NES/Genesis fan[boy]s that are fooling themselves.

 

Just some humble two cents, from someone whose all-time favorite 8-bit console game is NES Rygar and currently owns ~175 original carts, along with a PowerPak. My modded original Model 1 Genesis setup includes having the launch line-up titles all CIB, a few more, and the EverDrive MD.
