Unassembled MITS Altair

Here is something you don't see everyday, and un-assembled MITS Altair kit...

I saw a fully assembled one at CEX (a second hand games/hardware shop) near TCR for about the same price, back end of 1999

 

I am guessing that not to many fully working one's are in circulation (if they go for that amount)

Hey I saw that too (in the window), When CEX was still in that little side-street getting there from Tottenhamcourt Road, did it have that high a price tag? I remember seeing some paper tape (rolls) with that Altair. For UK it was a very rare item indeed, even back in the 90s.

Later CEX moved to Oxford Street, I remember having to go down the stairs for the Retro stuff.

Are they still around?

A collector's piece indeed.

as is, its not that hard to slap together an 8080 machine and have it run basic stuff

If i recall correctly it was around about if not slightly more then 3K, all I remember is the strapline they had underneath it 'The first machine to run MS software')

Does anyone know the original retail price was in 1974? Hackers may have this info, but my copy is not handy.

The original Altair was sold at the ridiculous price of $397 USD (Fire in the Valley, Swaine)

 

It was a great offer and part of its sucess because Intel was selling the 8080 at $360 USD the unit.

Ah, I see... I was wondering if the Altair was the correct computer or not. Indeed the IMSAI it does look cooler, with those awesome red and blue data entry switches.
