42bs
Nice to see you on this forum Bastian I understand it is going to be hard to get one of these cool driving school theory test sets then. Hey, they even made a promo-video, and - shame on them - called it "From gameboy to learn-boy" But I guess, most driving schools sold the lynxes, reused the cases and threw away the cards. I guess I could make some money if I only had one or two of them and selling it on ebay :-) SIMIS is a great game I think. Thank you. Do you have any plans for new Lynx projects in the future? Plans ? A lot. Time ? None. a) 1k - game card with about 120 games ! b) Zoop port c) kinda reverse-tetris d) Battlesphere port 42Bastian
chris_lynx1989
harry, those carts look just like mine especially the real atari ram eprom cart you show with eob and the wired ram. sans the ram on mine.i have the same eproms and all.-chris

chris_lynx1989
as i remember, this was released by epyx through atari as electrocop.in the lynx's/handy's early days it was called impossible mission in the old press releases i have from the summer of 1989. rampage was originally called monster demolition.gauntlet 3 was called time quests and treasure chests.chips challenge had another name too,i think.blue lightning and california games kept their names.i remember that red baron became warbirds.the list goes on on others.-chris
Twoface2
Harry (who wonders why no-one has commented on the non-curved styles of the other two games) I wondered ! Because Battlezone was one of the last Lynx releases, and it should have been in curved lip format. The ridged cart format was only used in the earlier carts. Has someone put the PCBs and the plastic together to repair a broken cart? Or did Atari ran out of curved carts, but had some ridged back in stock ?? Enlighten us, Harry!
cryptik76
rampage was originally called monster demolition. You mean Rampage for the Lynx was going to be called Monster Demolition? Or do you mean the original arcade Rampage was going to be called Monster Demolition? I find it hard to believe that Atari would have been working on Rampage before having the actual Rampage license from Bally/Midway.
chris_lynx1989
hello, epyx was originally doing lynx before they and atari signed a deal back in june 1989 to make the lynx a reality together.epyx was doing the games and atari was going to handle unit and game card manufacture.also, atari was handling all the marketing and promotion of the lynx.epyx was the original design house of the handy unit/game.the lynx name came along later when atari signed on to help/take over the project.the real truth was that epyx was broke from all the development work on the handy project. if atari or nintendo or sega had not been there to help further we wouldn't have seen our lovable lynxes.(no nintendo and sega had no involvement in it.i'm only using them as other possible helpers besides atari being there to sign on with epyx).it was almost a totally dead project with epyx being broke and having this amazing little system they had developed and no way or money to market it.atari saved the handy project.hurt it too! now to your question.monster demolition was the original name of the game they had made.it originally did not look like the arcade version we pretty much know now.the characters in monster demolition were not as well defined as we know them now.george and lizzy looked rather homely in the old photos i have from back then.california games, electrocop and the gates of zendocon looked just as we see them today though. i rambled on a little bit,i guess.just tried to give you a little history before i answered your question.-chris
babble
What ever happened to Vindicators? How close to completion did it get? A four-player Vindicators would have been terrific on the Lynx - I remember loving the game when I was younger (had it on an old 8-bit system). 4 players and 4 different screens (a la Lynx) would have made it brilliant. Gauntlet meets Zarlor Mercenary. :->>
chris_lynx1989
this really never got past the alpha stage,i guess.it was abandoned when an atari programmer that was on the project got fired or left.someone was found later and took it over.i understand they were not satisfied with what was done-or the tramiels weren't-so they took it upon themselves to pull the game apart(i've been told by those in the know on it that this happen- ed to it) and reprogram and redesign it.they in effect destroyed what did exist to work with and it was then tossed altogether in the dumper.i guess, no source code exists for it.i've seen a rom of it available for download.is there anything there play??you tell me.it could exist in some small form on an eprom card somewhere too.who knows.atari was a strange place. glitch
I was going through my list and wondered if anyone knew the status of (whether or not they actually exist [preferably in cart form]) the following games that were announced at one time or another. Some are homebrews. 720 - mentioned earlier Bleaker Blood & Guts Hockey Blue Earth Cabal Classics 2000 Defender/Stargate/Defender II Demolition Derby Distant Lands - I believe Songbird is finishing this one. Dungeon Slayers Edward 2000 Evergreen Full Court Press Basketball Guardians: Storm Over Doria Heavyweight Contender Iron Reign Mechtiles Ninja Nerd Operation Desert Storm Paralemmings Pounce - I believe Harry may have put a perminent hold on this R.C. Destruction Derby Relief Pitcher Road Fury Rolling Thunder Spacewar - Is this space battles? Super Sprint - Just a title screen? The Furies Ultra Star Raiders Wolfenstein 3D
chris_lynx1989
cabal was supposedly not started really-a small demo may have existed for ces shows only.some of the others you list suffer from the same fate- heavyweight contender, cabal, rolling thunder and others.i have this on good authority from a former atari "higher up" person that would know. some of these were only promotional scans of what was planned and never went further than to do a little hype for the lynx at a ces show.small wonder.where have i heard that before. digital thunder and others that supposedly were bringing stuff out were only shooting "vaporware" at us as well.i've been told this by others that try to keep up on lynx happenings like i do. kurt olson supposedly turned his stuff over to telegames,i guess.he was working on lode runner,i believe. paralemmings and such are stillborn titles too.laurens simonis has not put a new post up on his site for these since 1998,i think. visual dimensions 3-d was like this too,i guess.there was a court battle going on with them and dark knight games back in 1996/7 about lynx and jag stuff they were working on with them/publishing for them(vd3-d) and this all dried up fast.i heard allegations of fraud and such.so i guess any of the vd3-d stuff does not exist at all. jagsoft 5 had some lynx stuff going too.i guess, it was all vaporware also? metasoft was supposedly bring out "slimeworld 2:all slimed up".this was all just hype i'm told. jagsoft supposedly did release 13 copies of a new shooter called "evergr- een back in 1998/9.they pulled the production plug on it for some reason.i don't know of anyone that has a copy of it.another game was to follow in the spring of 1999,i believe.it was to be called "river run"(river raid clone,i guess?).need to know more?post it up in this forum or you can email me at: chris_lynx1989@yahoo.com lynx up to all and to all a good night!do the meta game!(comlynx)
chris_lynx1989
geo duel was just a small demo or just a few scans.pounce is in the same boat here.this does exist on a couple eproms and is only a demo of about 30 seconds or less.not too far beyond the demo of marlboro go! which is only 2 minutes long.i like to play my copy of this from time to time.it is sort of neat.sepia tone grahics like dracula:the undead, though.not to much to see graphically.-chris
+davidcalgary29
Has anyone found the "missing" half of "Dracula" that's reported to exist?
chris_lynx1989
this was probably trashed.unless, you can find rob nicholson from handma- de software with an old amiga floppy of this at home.or some of the other guys from that software house(it no longer exists now).it may also exist on a harddrive in a warehouse somewhere to be "dug up" again to see.there are a few items yet to find.....you may hear more on this later on.keep your modem tuned to atari age for future details to come!-chris
