Intellivision controller adapters - what input controller should be used?

When I make more Intellivision controller adapters what input controller should be used?

 

1) Sega Master System - provides 2 button support, with 3rd button = button 1&2 at the same time

2) Sega Genesis / Mega Drive 3-button controller - provides 3 button support and pause

3) Neo Geo AES - provides 3 button support, select = pause, start = enter, D button = ???? (something)

 

Please note adapter will have built in keypad.

I voted for a Genesis controller because I thinj=k that 3 button Genesis controllers are still relatively cheap and available. My impression is that there are not as many SMS controllers. Is anything "Neo Geo" cheap?

 

Genesis 6 button would probably be even easier to find and cheaper than a 3 button but I'm guessing there's a good reason you did not list it in the options.

I also voted Genesis because they are easier to find. They are also quite ergonomic. Moreover, there are quite accessible Arcade style Genesis controllers.

 

Master System controllers are not that good quality wise (they break up easily) and are not that easier to find. AES controllers are quite expensive.

 

Definitely, I will be interested in a Genesis adaptor.

I think the Sega Genesis 3 button is the ideal choice. There are tons of them (and clones) out there. I have all of those controllers, so wouldn't even mind an AES adapter, but no reason to limit it. The SMS adapter sounds too awkward.

I think that the Genesis controller would be the optimal one of the ones listed as it should be able to replicate all three side buttons configurations on the Intellivision controller (top buttons, lower-left button & lower-right button).

Just a side note, once you have one up and running, it would probably be a good idea to test it with the 6-button Genesis controller as well to make sure it's still compatible (in 3-button mode).

I vote Genesis. The 6 button controller has the superior d-pad. It would be way better for games that you need to run around. But not sure about game where you need precise up down left right movement like Burgertime. But for sports and game like Centipede it would be great.
