ok, where is this "pixel glitch" on the title screen?  I can't find it.

It's where the arrow points to in this image; and also in all identical locations of the border all along that side. It pops out and back in continually during the animation.

This version still won't load and execute with the SDRIVE loader for some reason.  When the load finishes, you just get a silent black screen.

The only explanation is that XEX support is very basic. Did you test it using an ATR with menu for example?

According to what I see in the emulator it should work without problems.

EXE: Loading program 0006-0019 to 2000-2013
EXE: Loading program 001E-001F to 02E2-02E3
EXE: Jumping to 2000
EXE: Loading program 0024-4023 to 8000-BFFF
EXE: Loading program 4028-402A to 8488-848A
EXE: Loading program 402F-4031 to 862D-862F
EXE: Loading program 4036-4056 to 7F00-7F20
EXE: Loading program 405B-406D to 2000-2012
EXE: Loading program 4072-4073 to 02E0-02E1
EXE: Launching at 2000

The SDRIVE loader has been around awhile and is pretty robust, so I feel there has to be something different about this XEX.

Do the test I told you about to see if it loads from an ATR to rule things out. Some chargers have problems when an XEX uses 02E2-02E3 one or more than one for example. 😉

If it works on all others and only fails on a certain device and it's variants... then...

The SDRIVE has no problem loading previous XEX versions of Joust, so the issue is with this XEX file, not the SDRIVE.

Any idea why this won't load with SDRIVE?  It works fine with SIO2SD and Fujinet, but the XEX on SDRIVE will not execute.  It loads, but goes to black screen and never starts.

Can you try this XEX? It uses a simpler load sequence:
