thomas3120
Hello, A while back I added an internal compact flash HDD into my Spectrum +3e. I did have to upgrade my ROMs to a '+3e' version to work but really enjoying it. The new ROMS have updated commands as well as fixes.. As I recall hooks up to the cpu (Z80) and a couple of 74XX ICs... Programs and games load in seconds Right now just using the simple 8-bit interface. Wondering if there is anything out there for, i.e., the 800XL? Here's the one on my +3e: thomas Edited July 20, 2014 by thomas3120
Shawn Jefferson
The only ones that I'm aware of would be the internal MyIDE from Atarimax (which looks like it is no longer available), and the Incognito for 800 (maybe no longer available as well.) People have of course hacked various other things into their computers, but those two above were the only easy ones that I know of.
Marius
You could use a myide cart and solder the leads to the right places on the motherboard. You could address it to act like an internal myide You could also build in a sio based hd interface like sio2ide.
pirx
A very old (2002-2005), but still working solution is sio2ide http://www.atari.org.pl/sio2ide/. The latest version is USB compatible so you can access files directly from PC. You just need ide2cf adapter for it to work. Also, AFAIR, rarely a CF card was reluctant to cooperate. It was superseded by much more convenient sio2ide though. Best, pirx
+Larry
Check at Atarimax -- I just bought an Internal MyIDE a couple months ago. Since it is flash rom-based, it has very good software compatibility. It also has a "fail-safe" XEOS built in. The firmware has been updated several times, and it is quite FAST. (SIO2IDE is SIO-based, so it is no faster than APE or other virtual devices.) The internal MyIDE is easy to install, but you must have a socket for your rom, and then solder three wires from a small harness to connect to the MyIDE. Find the info at: http://www.atarimax.com/myide_old/documentation/ My understanding is that Steve has these built (or builds them) a few at a time, so it might take several weeks to get one. Also, he is a very busy guy, so it might take a bit for him to answer an email. Incidently, there is one other nice advantage to the system. The MyIDE portion of the flash rom can be flashed with any XL/XE compatible OS, so I attached a SPST switch to the "Failsafe Jumper" and I can easily flash other OS for testing purposes or flash Omnimon for debugging. -Larry
