ubersaurus
I honestly didn't find Sirius or Plutos that bad. Sirius, the only real issue is the asteroid stage, and once you know to really watch for the little rocks that's not so bad. Complaining about autofire in a shooter made in the 80s is weird too - almost none of them had that, and if they did it was so slow it was useless. I also don't really mind the lack of POKEY - as much as I'd like background music and all, it's not something I expect on 7800 games. It would be cool, but considering the Tramiels were too cheap to even allow for larger cart sizes if they could help it, well...

And once you cross that threshold into the 90s, auto fire became common. Raiden comes to mind.
kiwilove
These two games are unfinished - I would presume - and I'd say you're lucky to even get to play these as they are. They most probably haven't been through the process of playtesting/readjustment/etc needed to finetune the playability to it's utmost. For anyone wanting to create something better? I'll be up for having a go with it's graphics - although I don't have a 7800 nor played through 7800 games even via emulation. I don't think there'll be any takers for this kind of project - and I can't say I'll be 100% up for it, but only say I would look into the possibility and would have a try at how designs may look like. Because I already have completed design work for an A8 project - it's easy enough to transfer some these across for a quick test, as temporary graphics. I would do completely new design(s) if the whole project looks feasible/successful a collaboration. Sirius is obviously C64 influenced, as it has that Delta/Armalyte look to it. The colours does seem lacking - 4 colours? I can't say I'm impressed by what I've seen of the 7800 hardware - sprites yes, but the background graphics seem limited. It's very cool to have you willing to contribute, kiwilove. The 7800 was definitely not tapped to its potential; however, there are some games that demonstrate the opposite of limited background graphics. Some of those games include: Alien Brigade BasketBrawl Commando Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest Crack'ed Crossbow Ikari Warriors Midnight Mutants Ninja Golf Sentinel Tower Toppler What may impress as well is the handling of parallax scrolling (I.E. Tower Toppler, Sentinel, Ninja Golf, Bentley). Some screen captures are below, the parallax scrolling, of course, cannot be appreciated without seeing it in motion.
kiwilove
Thanks for pointing those games out to me. I did try looking for a good video which could show them in action - this was some months ago via Youtube - but didn't find anything that provided a good summary / tour of 7800 games together. I did move onto the SNES console and others... after the Atari 800 / ST / Amiga back in the day. And have only returned to doing some stuff on A8 hardware. I'm not sure if I will end up doing anything on 7800 hardware as I may find it too limiting - maybe? Harvey

Harvey Regarding videos, (Shameless plug), there is this playlist for the 7800 for the aforementioned games and more. Anyhow, you'll definitely have much stronger memory constraints than the A8. The graphics are handled differently as well. However, play to the system's strengths and lean on the fantastic tools provided, such as 7800basic, and you may be amazed at what you can achieve. Interest is always appreciated, regardless.
kiwilove
I only design graphics, and have no programming ability, etc. So I need to team up with a programmer. I do provide gaming ideas and such like comment(s). Harvey

Harvey Yeah Sirius needs some work. Get rid of those tiny asteroids on the first stage that are no bigger than bullets. Or remove the collision and make them background elements. I keep colliding with the peanut sized asteroids and dying. Also my Plutos EPROM went bad and had to send it back to CPUWIZ. Plutos was much more playable IMO.
