FS: Atari Mega STe with original box/packaging

Recommended Posts

I've decided to sell my Atari Mega STe. It has served the family well, but it just has been sitting in its box for over a decade now, so I think it's time to move on (its younger brother, my 1040 STe, gets all the attention).

It's a 4 Meg, 40 MB HD model. It's still in very nice condition (little to no yellowing). It also comes with its original packaging including the Styrofoam. Check out the pictures for most of the details.

About the computer:

* I tested it for an afternoon. Played a few games on it, both on a TV using the FM output, and on a Commodore 1084 monitor, both outputs work great. Also tested out 1st Word plus on an SM124 monitor, and the B/W output is perfect, too. Note that games/software and monitors are NOT included.

* While the disk drive is working great, the hard drive is not. In fact, with it plugged in, the computer wouldn't power-up/boot at all. I had to disconnect the HD from the power supply to start it up. I am still including the HD, perhaps it's an easy fix, but you should probably count on needing a replacement drive.

* The other thing that is not working is the mouse. It's an aftermarket model, and one direction doesn't work. Again, I'm including it as an extra. I have only one fully functional mouse, which is staying with my 1040, sorry. I think it may be just a matter of cleaning out the rollers, but just so you know. (And yes, I did test it with the functional mouse and it worked great, so the port is functional).

* My cousin had the computer for a few years in his music studio, and I think he may have changed/upgraded the memory at the time. I'm including a bunch of extra chips that were in the box. Nobody remembers if these were the old chips, or the new chips to be put in - see pictures, again, just included as an extra. The reason I think the original chips may still be in the computer was that the sticker covering the main screw to open up the STe was still intact. But I could be wrong.

* I'm also throwing in a SC1224/SM124 monitor switcher (I have two, and don't really need them).

* The outer box has some shipping sticker and some duck tape in parts, including the original Atari shipping sticker. Again, see pics. It does include the smaller "inside box" for the manual etc, but I forgot to take a picture of it.

About price and shipping:

* I'm guessing I could sell this for $300-$400 US on eBay. I would rather sell it to another collector directly, so I'm open for offers.

* I'm located in Regina, Canada. Local pickup is free and preferred, shipping within Canada would be $35, shipping to the US would be $90. I will wrap the box in an additional layer of cardboard so that no further stickers are attached to it. :)

Thanks for your interest!

I appreciate the sentiment, Seb! :)

But I still have my 1040 STE and a spare 1040 STF, which are the ones I grew up on (and which I'm playing the games on that I'm buying from you - hehe - just had a round of Metrocross yesterday!). The Mega STE is beautiful and nice to have, but it truly has just sat in a box for the past 10 years. Time for someone new to love it.
