+atari2600land
So I thought I'd try out my Colecovision. I plugged it in, the sound was working okay, but as I tried more and more titles, the sound just quit working. The picture is great, but there's no sound. What is wrong? +nanochess
You can check directly in the output pin of the SN76489 using headphones, don't forget to ground the other side using a 4.7K resistor.
+atari2600land
I don't really know how to do that.
+atari2600land
I figured out what the problem was. When I had unscrewed the Colecovision the first time to clean the power switch, I lost the screws that tighten the Colecovision back together. Since I put together the Colecovision, finding that if I squeeze where the output to the TV wire connector is, sound gets on. So what I need is a screw long enough to hold that hole where the screw is in place, squeeze it always so I always get sound. Where can I get some replacement Colecovision screws? NIAD
Take a couple screws out and make sure they are all the same size and thread... pretty sure they are but it's been a while. Then take a screw to the hardware store and match it up. If you have a problem there, just ask for helpm
+atari2600land
All the screws are gone, though.
+atari2600land
Small update. I found a screw and put it in. Now there's sound almost all of the time, except when it goes silent sometimes. All I have to get it back is to pound on it where I put in the screw and it should come back. It's a fussy Colecovision. Everything has to be perfect. +nanochess
I'm thinking your problem is more like a cold solder, you could reflow and add extra solder just below the RF module and it could help.
+atari2600land
What does "reflow" mean? I'm kinda weary about soldering though, and I don't want to screw up my Colecovision. This would be the very first time I've soldered something.

NIAD
If you don't have a container of extra screws lying around the house to check for similar screws to use to fasten down the two halves of your CV, then make a quick run to a hardware store and buy some damn screws instead of pounding on your system... it's not that difficult. BTW, pounding on your system when the sound goes out will eventually lead to worse problems like loosening solder... the CV was manufactured some 33-34 years ago. +atari2600land
Yeah, I think I'll solder it. I woke up, turned it on and no sound. I twisted the wire to the TV around and the sound came back on. I'll have to go to Ace on Sunday and get some solder and an iron since I don't have either one.
