+davidcalgary29
I've recently pulled a XMM801 out of Deep Storage and was thinking about starting it up for light use, but tractor-feed paper is becoming hard to find and, well, there are certainly better options for light home use. Is anyone using modern inkjet or laser printers with their A8 units? Show me your set-ups!

Wow, I haven't used a dot matrix in a long time, but you're right I see lots of options, including a box of 2500 sheets of 8.5x11 on the US staples: https://www.staples.com/continuous+feed+printer+paper/directory_continuous+feed+printer+paper?autocompletesearchkey=continuous+feed+printer+paper But I don't see anything (at least online) for staples.ca. Have you seen options available in-store? I know I've seen places like airport checkin and courier shipping desks still using those good 'ol Okidata Microlines's still. They're getting it somewhere... Omega-TI
Dot matrix printers can drive you nuts with the incessant noise if you do a lot of printing. Sadly mine NEVER sounded like this.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8I6qt_Z0Cg
+Nezgar
I remember how cool it was using Darren Schebek's Envision to print out the three-page long USS Enterprise on my Roland DG PR-1012 (it would emulate the common Epson FX-80 natively)
+bob1200xl
I use an HP M401dn laser printer, driven through SIO2USB. None of the new printers have parallel interfaces, so you need something like SIO2USB and an old windows machine to talk to them. Simple, little BASIC programs can be used to print on a wide range of fonts, paper, cards, labels, checks, envelopes,,, 2-sided printing, even screen dumps. Or, just pass through from the Atari to the printer. And, the printer is hecka cheap. (they get you on the cartridges...) Bob

Omega-TI
Staples... I shudder every time I hear that store mentioned. They've gotten so much of my money, because they always have something I "need".
+Larry
I've recycled all my old dot matrix printers. In fact, I was thrilled to get my first HP inkjet (with Epson emulation) many years ago. But APE changed the game completely several years ago when Atarimax added printer emulation. It uses a Winprinter to print through the Windows Printer Driver or Epson emulation or an Atari 1020 plotter (but I've never used that). But you must use APE, and I think that some or all of the printer features are not available in the free version. I know that the features work with the APE USB adapter and also a (genuine) FTDI USB adapter, although the FTDI on APE can only do 3X disk transfers. I've not tested a real RS232 setup. I also believe that AspeQt/RespeQt also have some print-thru capabilities, but last I checked, it was not nearly as complete as APE. Here is a setup shot of APE's printer configuration that shows some of its features. (If you click on it, it will open up larger for easier viewing) -Larry
+slx
I have a Canon BJ200 ink-jet in storage which should work using a SIO to parallel adapter or 850 as it supports standard ESC/P codes (Epson LQ). With vertical paper feed and a front output it's quite compact and quiet but I have to admit I haven't actually tried it on an 8-bit yet (but used it as a main printer on STs for a long time). toddtmw
I love my KX-P1091. I bought ribbons and paper for it recently and have been using the heck out of Printshop.
+Ripdubski
I print to emulated Epson FX80. Save output as PDF, then print PDF to Brother laser. The Brother laser supports FX80 emulation itself, but connectivity is an issue.
Bikerbob
I also use SIO2PC with APE. I have an older DeskJET 350c that I print to just in black. works really well. Anything that will print on the Atari has come out looking great on the printer through APE. James
