+nanochess
Someone connected with Tempest has the proto for Anteater, as the screenshots of AtariProtos.com have been updated. Pretty surprising at least for me. http://www.atariprotos.com/2600/software/anteater/anteater.htm
Supergun
Tempest himself may have the rom for that matter. (he often gets them for his reviews) But it's meaningless when we do, because most often they are given under strict guidelines & we have to respect them or we won't be trusted again! Foxsolo2000
Looking back at some old correspondence I remember Brad K advising me of the true nature of the pirate of ChopLifter being Chopper Command but I cannot confirm that it was him who claimed he saw it at a Gaming Convention back in the early 80's. I will keep looking.

Foxsolo2000
Ok I am going to have to admit defeat on this. I have spent the past couple of hours going through all the topics I started or particpated in and gone through my messages on here and have been unable to find the information. Before anyone starts yes I was told by a member that they had seen it at a convention and I had no reason to doubt him. Does anyone remember who had an avatar of a helicopter? I would like to eliminate that member from my enquiries.

A shame of course but with these screenshots atariprotos make me happy, anyway in a time I would be like a kid seeing a candy in the shop and unable to taste it. But these times I'm satisfied with watching and discovered I could make my own and tastier candies
Thomas Jentzsch
I hope in the near future no one will care for that Anteater anymore.
H.E.R.O.
I'm always curious why a particular rom can't be released. I've heard a variety of reasons for a variety of roms over the years. Marble Madness II for the arcade was always the big one story wise up to and including more than a decade ago the current owner putting up a 'price' for him to release them then the arcade scene getting the amount pretty quick & then he upped the price to some crazy number. Last I heard the MAME team had the roms for safe keeping but obviously won't put them out sans permission. Also anyone who has tried the game has said it sucks. Tempest
I'm always curious why a particular rom can't be released. Usually it's one of three reasons: 1. The copyright is still active because the property is still being updated and sold. Lots of arcade game ports fall into this category as do licensed game like Dungeons and Dragons. This is the most common reason. 2. The owner (usually the programmer or an employee) are scared about getting into trouble for releasing it and err on the side of caution. Usually it's an unfounded fear, but you can't blame them for being cautious. 3. The owner of the prototype just doesn't want it released for whatever reason. This isn't nearly as common as everyone thinks. In fact I can only think of two or three unreleased protos that this applies to. Still, since they own the proto, it's theirs to do with as they will.
