U1MB CPLD JED not loading

Hi, am trying to get v3 of the U1MB JED to flash onto an original U1MB (from Candle)

I have the cabling wired up as:

U1MB <-> XILINX Programmer

1 <-> 2 Vref

2 <-> 3 GND

3 <-> 6 TCK

4 <-> 8 TDO

5 ---- NC

6 <--> 4 TMS

7 ---- NC

8 ---- NC

9 ---- NC

10 ---- NC

Am using IMPACT from Xilinx ISE 14.7 under a Linux VM in Virtualbox. (as configured by Xilinx)

The boundary scan completes, and finds the CPLD, albeit doesn't know what type it is, it keeps asking me for a configuration file, for it. (as well as its IR width)

and when I try to select the JED, IMPACT complains that it doesn't know what type of file it is (even though it is verified to be a JEDEC)

As you can see here:

WTF?

Sure the U1MB is powered-up? (the host computer is ON and ribbons connected to U1MB?)

When I upgraded my older U1MB to v2 JED, it proved to be an extremely frustrating experience (similar to yours)... just because I f_king forgot to light-up the U1MB with host's power. After that, it went through at the first try...

I do wonder what's in store with v3, though? What are the new features?

I just did exactly the same thing today, you are using the wrong software.

You want the windows native version on the download page here

https://www.xilinx.com/support/download/index.html/content/xilinx/en/downloadNav/design-tools/v2012_4---14_7.html

here

Then follow the instructions in this post

Including the bit about getting the labtools you just installed working on Windows 10 (if that's what you are running)

This is my JTAG cable (excuse the dodgy soldering!)

and my programmer

Everything went without a hitch. One thing to note I had the jtag cable plugged into the programmer upside down to start with; with the U1MB powered and the programmer plugged in the staus led was still red, turning it up the other way made it go green, then everything worked as the instructions said.
